    Sangster to Negril

I have read a little about making the trip from the airport to Negril on a route other than the coast road. Is the duration of the drive close to the same? Is the road comparable? What little places do you travel through on your way? Is this trip worthwhile as far as sight seeing goes? Thanks for any input.

Or...take the 17 min. option of flying there...that's how I do it..it looks beautiful flying up the coast line at 1700 ft...swoop over Booby Cay....line up your approach over Hedo...& touch down....your done...love it..wouldn't have it any other way!

The inland route over the mountain takes longer and cost a little more for the driver's time but if you've been down the coast road a few times the is an interesting way to get to Negril.

Here's a video of the trip. Sorry about the croping but it doesn't seem to post in 9:16 format:

stoner, i've driven that road 2x on my own, once to negril and once from negril.
lovely scenery, winding and hilly but not too hilly, no big trucks, just great views . . .
    took me at least 3 hrs . . . i was driving and gazing . . .
    worth the trip . . .

The inland road is a fabulous route to take if you've been coming down here for some time. It's quite windy/curvy...you're driving through a few towns...it can take approx. an extra 30 min.

You'll see gorgeous lush countryside...quaint towns with a bustle of activity going on....you have to stop at Borders for pork which is Boston style jerk (cooked differently than Red Dragon but equally as delicious)...you end up coming through Savanna La Mar enroute to Negril....

I love the "back door" into Negril! Yes, it does take a little longer but I love the road less traveled. Linston took us on our most recent visit and it was wondrous. Stopping at Border Jerk is always a low key highlight! Our arrival Dec 14th was truly the longest time ever spent in the airport. In over 29 trips, it was the longest wait in history! 2 and a half hours before we saw the light of day outside of the airport. You can only imagine the traffic at that point. So, the road less traveled was probably as quick as the traffic jammed normal route and much more relaxing. Yes, we have flown into Negril before and I don't regret that at all. But, by the time we boarded, landed, then get transport to the west end....we could have driven and saved some bucks too.
Bottom line, I would give it a shot! It will transport you into the laid back lifestyle of Negril within moments. Kick back and enjoy the scenery and curves of Jamaica!
