    transportation to Falmouth and back

I'm looking for the cheapest transportation to Burwood Beach in Falmouth and return back to Negril after spending a few hours there. No frills, no tours, just the ride there and back at the end of the day. I may do this several days over a 2 week period in February so I can negotiate a deal with whoever is driving. Any suggestions welcomed.

that's a hike for just a few hours.
better option would be to stay for a couple of days . . .

I would love to stay there but there doesn't look like much to do and from what I have read it is a poverty stricken area. If I am wrong about this please enlighten me. I am open to suggestions as to what to do and where to stay, safe of course.

A "couple of hours" for you in Falmouth translates to roughly 4-5 hours of road time for the driver plus the hours waiting for you. Even with "no frills" this is would be considered a full day for him. You'll need to consider that when looking for "cheap fare" with a charter driver. Truly the "cheapest price" will be with multiple route taxis, but obviously not for someone not used to the local system and who doesn't enjoy much of the day's activity to be spent on the road vs being at your destination location site.

Are you visiting local friends there? Just curious about Falmouth? When you mention staying in the area, do you mean over night or just on these day trips?

Be sure to check out Knutsford Express. They have daily trips from Negril to Falmouth and back which are very affordable at J$1850 one way (about us$16).

we stopped at falmouth on a cruise last year and if was my first visit to Jamaica i would have never gone back. did not get to visit burwood beach so perhaps that was part of the problem but i doubt it compares to negril beach.

So I guess my question should be what is a fair price for someone to take me to Falmouth and back for the day. I'm thinking I may have more negotiating power with a local with a car instead of a charter driver who does this for a living and will have more of a fixed rate.

A local with a car is not legally allowed to drive you. You need to take a red plated taxi otherwise there is no insurance coverage and you become responsible for any damages as an accomplice. You also have no coverage for your injuries. Knutsford is by far the cheapest alternative.

Interesting, I didn't know that. So anyone I get in a car with even if its someone I have known from my many visits to Negril, will still put me in a liable situation unless they have insurance which i'm assuming is not mandatory for driving. If this is the case i will look into Knutsford. Thanks for the info Rob.

I took the Knutsford from Negril to Falmouth last summer. They were helpful, courteous, professional, on-time, comfortable seating and ac, wifi, all for under 20 bucks. I was impressed and will definitely use their service again.
