hey_mon,
Nice posts. I know Barry since he was a little kid. Always respectful, helpful and hard working. Miss Gloria I think was his Grandma although I'm not sure, didn't matter she raised him as hers. Please stop in and say Hi from me if you get the chance.
Wilbert??? If he can still remember he would have some tales to tell!!! Mon!!!!
Three weeks is just about right. Not too long, but more than enough to get settled in, chilled and cooled out. Will you be doing any out trips???? Treasure Beach??? If so check out Kory at Sunset Resort and Villa's two doors down from Jakes. He is an American guy married to a Jamaican gal and they have a nice location overlooking the sea / beach, reasonable prices for food, drink, etc...
Ever been to Seaford Town??? That's over TB, Lover's Leap way, a couple hours from Negril. Very interesting history, culture, people!!!Yes I know how great it is to hang out in Negril and enjoy the sand, surf, cliffs, etc............................................... .....................
Seaford Town
So who should I say says hi to Barry???? How would he know you? I go by hey_mon here but real name is Monica. Kinda just fit after we went there the first time...it stuck!!
Will definitely go by and have coffee or a beer with Barry, depending on the time and pass on your greeting.
Would love to go to Seaford Tow, looks like my kinda place. Love the places with history and off the grid. Have done many trips around the island but still feel like we have left a lot un touched.
Have you brought your family down yet to let them see why you came back again and again? We had so much fun with our kids a few years ago!! Our middle boy, 19 at time went sideways on us and I did not know weather to go looking for him or envy him!!! Just kidding, but kinda not, if you know what I mean. Felt like it could be one of those defining moments and was I gonna be the one to redefine it!! lol Glad we got him on the plane or we might be Grand parents to a little Jamadian pickney.....case that's never been done!! Cant wait to get back and hit the road to relaxation and sunsets yet to be equalled up here on this bald ass prairie!!
Kassia, our oldest when we were down there in '96 with her!
Iain, the one that almost got away, with his sister Kassia few years ago!
Evan our youngest, the defenceman, and the blonde, with his best bud Jacob, and goalie on his hockey team, at Rooms in Negril with their little bud Nathan who came looking for them all week!!

hey_mon,
Yes please say Hi to Barry. He knew me as John, I used to go down with an old bud Brooks. Save the pic on your phone or computer and show Barry. He'll recognize me / us.
I did go down with my family a few years back when the kids were younger. Flew into MoBay, rented a car and went Runaway Bay, Portland, over the mountains and to Kingston where we stayed at the Pegasus and caught up with an old friend (American woman living in K'ston) from there South Coast to Negril and stayed at Rondell Village for a week. Way too much travel time for little kids I guess but I was reliving the path (selfish me I guess). Anyway we had a great time all the way around.
Great looking kids you have by the way!!! Iain mus not fall to far from fe tree mon???? Can you much blame him??? I mean next to Canada where do you find such beautiful women as Jamaica???? I am sure Kassia got her share of attention too??? I know all too well the temptations of a 19 year old in Negril!!!! Oh to be a teenager again!!!!
Last but not least a pic of my old D-partner Bobby Orr. Oh those were the days!!!!

#4 rules. Great pictures. Thanks.
Well well well, look at the company you keep!!1 Number 4 Bobby Orr at one end of the spectrum and Brooks at the other end!! You must have stories that never end. Did you actually play with him, and on what team and what year....wow!!!
I laughed out loud at the toque on Brooks as it looks almost identical to the one Iain is wearing, and only 30 some odd years in between!!!lol
You two must have had way too much fun down there, and broke a few hearts along the way
Love that pic of Seaford town as it looks so nostalgic somehow....not sure where we will get to this year but will definitely keep that in mind. Have put that pic in my phone of you and Brooks so will go have a beer with Barry and pass on your greetings. We are close our first week as we are staying at Kuyaba, the former Sea Gem. Feel like I do remember it from back in the day as one of the few places on the beach. Do you still keep in touch with either of them...
11 sleeps but whos counting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey_mon,
Life has been great!! Hope for more to come. Bobby O had been traded to the Blackhawks when I turned pro and his knees were shot so never played together but met and knew him over the years. Brooks I've know since I was 18, partner in crime, stories you would believe but others probably wouldn't so until we meet, Irie Dreads in hand, I'll leave it at that.
Barry has met thousands of folks over the years so John & Brooks might be fuzzy but show him the pic and he'll remember straight away. I haven't seen him in years but did stop in long after Miss Gloria had passed and he was running his place so hope you have a nice visit with him. Toast him to the OLD DAYS!!
You must be very excited about your trip!!! Winter here has been really cold and about 30 inches of snow on the ground. I try and not be envious of Y'All who are either in JA or are headed down but mon I am tired of winter!!!
Look forward to your posts either North of The Border or in sunny JA. Cool Runnings!!!
Well I will hold you to the Irie Dread stories!! I think it would be highly entertaining and am always up for a good laugh, even at my own expense! We all have those friends who have seen too much, know too much and yet never speak
Barry may need a little prodding but I am sure will recognize the pic from years back. The first time I stopped in he needed a little reminding, but then remembered our wedding and it was like old times.
I am pulling out the suitcase and starting to pack, list make, etc this weekend. Winter in Manitoba has been on the mild side actually, not a lot of snow, and that kind of sucks in our house!! It really is a double edged sword around here, as I hate the snow and cold and do not really partake in any real outdoor activities in the winter, other than the time spent at the hockey rinks, and that is all indoors so...who am I kidding! Summer I never see the inside of our house! But my husband works for the city in the street section so when it snows, he goes, and the overtime pays for the little indulgences like 3 weeks on the beach in Negril. This year was not one of those, but hey, off we go so life is really not that bad!!
Hope your snow melts soon and you can enjoy the other three seasons!!

hey_mon,
They are predicting more snow today-tomorrow, it might blow off shore and spare us. I am not adverse to cold and snow but I don't think I have ever been so tired of winter as I have this year. Maybe wishin I was headed to JA adds to the rub!!! The idea of splitting the year 6 months warm climate 6 months up north doesn't sound too bad at this point in time.
Not wanting to kill your buzz I won't mention winter again.
When do you fly?? Next Saturday??? Wow you must be feelin great!!! 3 weeks mon, soon come!!! I remember trips I took down to JA was there 4 weeks, a couple of months. You start becoming a fixture in the society. I often camped in a tent in Miss Gloria's yard, meager Ital diet, fruits, veggies, fish. I would walk the beach all the way to what is now Hedonism and back probably around 10 miles RT every day, sometimes jog it. Mon I was fit. Very low body fat after a month of that. I realize that people go now for vacation so diet is the last thing on their minds but!!!!!!
Barry was maybe 10 years old when I first met him. Great kid!!! Miss Gloria did an awesome job raising him. Last time I saw him was probably 10 years ago, by that time Miss G was gone and Barry had his own setup. I was staying at Rondell Village up the beach but it was nice seeing him again.
Good luck with your prep for the trip!!!
Irie
