The savings is about $25-35 per person, not the $10 Cap is suggesting. (Taxis do not run from MBJ to Negril for $35 - more like $50-75). The bus usually stops once for beer and a bathroom break. One advantage is getting to see some of the resorts along the way that you may miss otherwise. I take the bus on the way to Negril and taxi going to the airport, many times. The extra time will only be 15 - 30 minutes, which is really no big deal.
Being on a shuttle with a bunch of newbies personally works on my nerves but I'm frugal so there is always a battle going on in my mind. When I've used Clive it wasn't so bad because most using him were not newbies....

I've enjoyed the JUTA, met some good folks on the rides. The driver will usually poll the group about stopping or driving straight to Negril. On my last drive, there were some newbies on board so the driver took us on the scenic route through the hills. It was great!
I agree with Cap. Now days the price is about the same. Up till a couple of years ago Juta was a big savings and we used them a few times we were trying to save money. Now Juta is mostly people going to the AI's and the people we have ridden with the last few times don't really seem to be as excited. Remember, they will be having a different perspective than people who mingle with the local people. I think you would have a much better time using a private driver like Linston and having him stop along the way for beer, a bite to eat etc. and meet some great Jamaican people. Meeting new Jamaican people and maybe making some new friends there sounds much more exciting to me.
We have done both and enjoyed both. Not sure why someone would say that JUTA doesn't stop for bathroom breaks and to get an ice cold red stripe. We always stop with JUTA....every time. We always had a blast laughing and talking to the other passengers on the bus! It was a fun ride and was nice meeting new people.
If you want a private ride I want to recommend shane. He took really good care of us and he was very reasonable. he has a nice facebook page....Shane Taxi.
actually enjoy juta....they always stop....and imho get you too negril pdq. always stay non ai and if we are the last ones too be dropped off they will generally run us in town to get food and drinks and cash before dropping us off....for a little extra of course....lol.....one time i did run into couple in jamaica for the first time and going to secrets that were unpleasant too ride with and wouldnt get off the bus at the stop so we had too leave quickly but for the most part have enjoyed my riding companions and have made plans to meet later in the week for trips too falls and such.....either way you decide too get there works but try juta for a change, you wont be disappointed.
