Juta is our choice and have to agree with the last two post. We have been using them for many years. Never more than 2 or 3 hotel stops. 5 min at each. The drivers are always great and willing to do whatever you may want on your way to negril. Pick up your luggage, walk into the airport lobby. The Juta desk is right there. $100 bucks. Round trip. Always on time.

Just sayin, you can get a private ride for the same, or at most $20 more round trip for two.

On travel days I'm pretty much a zombie by the time we reach Sangster. The last thing I would want is a bus full of rowdys. But that's just me. We have used the same driver for years and it is always a rush to walk through those doors to be greeted by an old friend rather than fending off the throng of drivers. But the great thing is it's your vacation so you can do whatever strikes your fancy!

Funny thing, David, that people are parsing costs to justify their choice of Private or Juta but in most cases (like you point out here) that a difference might only be $5. I have used Juta many times and, when I am traveling solo, it sometimes makes a bigger difference but not for couples or larger groups.

One of the first early lessons learned in Jamaica was to get contact information for a lot of drivers and then use the ones who give me the best experience for the dollar and have a few choices when the others were previously chartered.

Linston is on the top of my list when I need a driver!

Having a driver available that you like and trust is very important to a great vacation.

We had a VERY last minute trip last year - and for the first time, we went without a driver or a hotel lined up (it was low season). We decided to not rush to get a driver at the airport and had a few rounds of drinks outside at the airport, of course folks coming up offering us rides, but we were in no hurry. Knowing that was our plan going in, it was low stress and we were able to get a few drinks while we haggled for a price on a private ride.

The driver did not believe us when he kept asking us where he would be dropping us in Negril and we told him we weren't sure.... He about flipped when the first place we tried was full, LOL, no worries just a bit down the road and all was good.

My feelings as well. And my driver puts me in the right vibe as soon as I see his smile. I couldn't imagine being on a bus full of unknowns after spending all my time on my transit. It takes me roughly 10 hours to get there after wheels up. Cooler full of beer, stop at Bigga's for the best chicken ever, and then hand delivered to my spot, all done at a snails pace. In contrast, the ride back is quick, not much talk, and quite somber.

Never had rowdies on a ride. Not once in 16 yrs. must be real lucky. Not about the money. Not sure of who ras is fending off but we're politely escorted to our ride and on the road in 20 min or so. Zombie? Never felt that way arriving in beautiful Jamaica either.

We've used JUTA and its perfectly fine (except for the older woman who kept trying to get me to look at her breasts WTH???) We've been lucky enough to go with Linston the last few years and there's nothing like walking out of the airport and seeing his smiling face!

Here's my take on JUTA, JTL and the like:

Maybe we were unlucky, but our experience was not good and we probably won't use group transfers again. Ever since that first trip we have alternated between 2 different private drivers and haven't looked back. It's nice to travel at our own pace, stop for lunch and sit at a table with our driver to discuss the latest runnings on the island.

I can echo Ras Walleye's and Booger's sentiment. After clearing customs, the last thing I want to do is navigate through some additional administrative BS with a pile of luggage. I think most people feel the same way, that's why the big AIs have arrival lounges where they escort you the rest of the way. For me, my preference is to walk through the door to the taxi stand and have my driver greet us and take my bags.

If I was ever to travel solo and was being frugal, I might try a service like Clive's group transport as I have heard good things about them.

Being from the south, we are a friendly people and the *unknowns* on the bus with us are just fun people we haven't met yet. We enjoy meeting new people from different places. Just part of the adventure for us. Just all in what you like I guess.
