Something really weird gwaan dis mornin'!

So, I been reading this book A Brief History of Seven Killings about the '76 Jamaican elections and the surrounding corruption and the assassaination attempt on Bob Marley. Anyway, I woke this morning and by chance grabbed my Bob Marley t-shirt out of the drawer to wear. I haven't worn it in quite a long time...anyway I come into work and fire up Iheart radio and the headline is celebrate Bob's 70th birthday today! I hadn't considered the date at all until then!!!! Anyway some may or may not believe in di duppy spirit but, mi believe! Happy birthday Bob!!!!!

I read "A Brief History..." a couple months ago -- definitely anything but brief but I really really enjoyed it. Don't know how far you are into it but it gets crazier and crazier as it goes along!

And if you haven't already, another book to check out is "The Natural Mystics: Marlye, Tosh, and Wailer" by Colin Grant. It's probably the best book I've read about the Wailers. First of all, it puts pretty much equal focus on all of the Wailers, as opposed to mostly Nesta, plus they weave a lot of history about the country of Jamaica in with the story. I don't know how deep into 60s/70s reggae you are, but an interesting story was about Delroy Wilson's big brother, nicknamed Batman. Apparently he was a big time rudeboy in Kingston, and demanded a group write a song about him. So the Slickers' "Johnny Too Bad" from The Harder They Come is about him.

    Anyway, I highly recommend it!

Crazy, Negril1990 you are from Dundas, Ont. I actually live in a small town called Dundas in MN, USA that was founded by 3 gentlemen from Dundas, Ontario. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dundas,_Minnesota

Drifter you are correct it is not brief in any sense of the word. I am only about 1/3 of the way through but it is definitely an interesting read. I do enjoy the chapters from the Jamaicans perspective and that they are presented in patois.

I guess I'm one of the few that didn't enjoy the book. I stopped half way thru.
