    Re: Home?

I guess I have better things to do than look for reasons to be offended, so no, someone saying that the USA, or South Dakota, was their "home away from home" wouldn't bother me the least as a lifelong resident. To me, thats quite simply looking for a reason to be annoyed or upset, and in a world full of valid reasons to feel those emotions, I don't have the need to go in search of things to offend. If someone using an innocent phrase to describe a place they are fond of upsets you to the point of being offended, I think the issiue lies with you and not them, personally.

    Re: Home?

I think Jamaicans in general have bought into the whole "Come Home to Jamaica" marketing line... and why not? On an island with little in the way of mineral resources, they've found a way to compete in a marketplace for their most precious import... us. I don't think I've ever gotten the vibe from any Jamaican that I was not welcome there or that they were offended when I said it was good to be "home". In fact, we've been offered hospitality in one acquaintance's home for a barbecue.

On the other foot? I'm not sure... but then again, we don't have the same situation-driven perspective.

    Re: Home?

On my first trip I felt a strong pull that I could not define. After repeated trips I was able to identify that feeling as "home". My ex said for years that she thought I was a Jamaican soul born in an American body.
Then I met and eventually married my beautiful Empress Donna who was born and raised in Oracabessa, St. Mary. After that it really was coming home. As others have said, when hotel and restaurant staff, drivers, and old friends greet us with welcome home, that says it all!
Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him. KJV Psalm 68:4

About 5 years ago my husband and I returned to Jamaica after being absent for a while do to some medical reasons and decided to do an AI at SATP so it would be easy goings on him after surgery. One night after dinner they had some live music and mentioned that they were going to sing the staff's favorite song. Well of course I thought it would be a Bob Marley song WRONG it was John Denver's Take Me Home. The place was in an up roar. To see the pride and the smiles on the staff's face's I will never forget to this day and now that is one of my favorite's Thanks Big Frank I have now posted this on my FB
Rosalie... Actually, Toots and the Maytalls recorded a cover for that JD tune and it's become sort of a reggae standard. I always enjoy that one when it comes around on my playlist...
