Thanks everyone for the information! I was not expecting a 5 star hotel by any means but I do want to feel safe in my room. I have canceled those reservations and have moved down the beach to The Negril Palms!

Cole - my wife and I are also staying at Palms in April. Our first time there, although we've been to that part of the beach many times.
