As a Jamaican, your friend is not likely to be"out of the loop" and is fully aware of the rental possibilities in the area. I can hardly imagine a place where the people could be more savvy when it comes to finding the "best deal". I have been visiting the island for extended stays since 1976 and I still occasionally "go soft" and fall for a friends supposed need for a likkle something. My Jamaican friends in the US have the same requests by their on island friends and relatives by phone and when they return to Jamaica for visits.
