I agree Zaya is a fine Rum. My personal fav is from Venezuela - Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva (green bottle) great to sip straight.
Yo Ho Ho and a bottel of rum...listen for my song as I stroll the beach Feb 26,27,28...

Perhaps somewhere in the offices of W&N there are still a few bottles of the best of the best

In 1981 the company was expanding the in bond warehouse in Spanish Town

A false stone wall was uncovered and inside were several barrels of rum that were from the US prohibition era.

I was given a flask of it and in 1982 it tasted like fine Cognac. I wonder what it would be now.

If you ever see One Barrel Rum from Belize....a true delight!! I begged our local liquor store to get it and surprisingly, they did! Also asked them to try and get Chris Blackwell's Black rum in (which I really like) yet no luck so far. There are many State regulations that seem to complicate matters.

100% agree that Blackwell rum is quite nice, but I didn't see it behind any bar in Negril. However... If you are looking for a good rum cocktail--like a good rum craft cocktail--I asked George at Xtabi to make me a series of off-the-menu rum drinks last week. One after the other was perfect, a couple I recognized and some new tastes to me. And no pina colada or dirty banana in the bunch. The highlight was when George mixed me a two rum cocktails in one lowball: the bottom half with Meyers dark (per my request for Meyers) and the top with Appleton Genesis, they looked like one drink but the flavors of the two rums was apparent from the top sip to the bottom sip. So, just ask for a good rum cocktail and you will be rewarded by one of Jamaica's best bartenders.

Pushcart had Appleton 21 year-old last time I was there. Yum!!!

If anyone is going to see Protoje in Santa Cruz, CA this Saturday, ping me and I'll clunk a plastic cup of rum with you.

Excuse my ignorance, but what happens to a 50 year old bottle of rum after another say 20 years? Does it go bad because not barreled? Does it, on the other hand, improve and become more valuable?

I'm guessing but think it doesn't change much after its bottled, perhaps if its stored in a very hot place it might degrade with time but would not improve over time in a bottle
