    Re: Loud Music

Just got back from another great holiday...had the opportunity to see Marcia Griffiths and Tarrus Riley during our stay. I'm happy the music is back in Negril. I wish the concerts were earlier like they were when the One Love series was going...start at 10, done by 2. Marcia didn't take the stage till 1am and Tarrus was about 12:30. Can't they enforce a curfew or something? Here in Canada, we have noise bylaws that restrict outdoor concerts. We were at Bourbon Beach one afternoon when they had the all-day rave going on....forced us to abandon our beach chairs and head up the beach to get away from the noise, as did a lot of others. They would have had way more patrons at their establishment if they had just turned down the decibel a bit....especially mid-afternoon! We stay across the road from the beach so the loud bass doesn't bother as much....and we always bring earplugs.

Some people go to relax, others go to party. Concerts are a huge part of the scene in negril. All concerts are loud. You can't please everyone.

Little thingys you place in the ear canal to reduce noise. We have them here in the states. You can find them at Lowes, wal-mart, Home Depot, Sam's......

I did notice last trip that Negril is becoming geriatric central. Not a lot of younger folk. I don't like loud music but when I was younger my folks complained about Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper ET al. Plus ca change........

In early Feb we were at Kuyaba for Dinner...........The sub woofers were obscene from somewhere close on the beach........Never had that problem before and probably won't again as I won't be going back there for dinner anyway..........Must have changed Chef's or something........

Love this thread, mostly because I have been on both sides of this argument. I love the music, both new and old school Reggae, but the volume and the late hours that it is being played has exceeded my age. Still love the beach vibe, but the late night blasting has made me think twice of where to stay when we book our trips. Years ago when De Bus, Risky Business, Roots, Alfreds and a few others had live bands, things finished up by 1:30, 2:00. Now it seems like they do not even start until midnight. Maybe I am just old, but even when on vacation, I still like to get some sleep. Also, you do not need to have the volume to ear splitting levels to enjoy it.
