No comparison between Seastar and Summerset lanes, LOLOLOL. Eight years ago Seastar lane was a lot of bush, very few houses and ruff dirt road. Now I can't even find the little concrete house I visited there.

Negrilaholic, you will be fine walking during the day. Its a wide paved lane, you can pretty much walk up the middle.

Well, I don't have money invested on Summerset Road...I live in Negril...I want everyone to feel safe as possible in Negril...I will repeat & stand behind what I said originally...

This is my take on Summerset Road as a woman living here...
Summerset is a quiet/relatively inactive road. Since there is not a lot of activity happening there other than Bella Donna's restaurant at the beginning...I prefer to remain on the cautious side when walking on a road that is not well populated.
I'm not saying it's dangerous & that you wouldn't be fine walking it...but I choose to err on the side of caution.

Everyone has their own comfort level, whether you have money invested on the road or not, lol. Only you know yourself best. Go with your gut (and with the info provided here).

PS: Just in case anyone was wondering..it ain't ME with money invested/a house on that lane. People close to me...yes, quite a few aside from my GS. But that has NO bearing on my opinions regarding the vibe of the neighborhood or the safety of the lane. I can only speak my own truth based on my 28 years of experience traveling to Negril. The fact that I do have friends and family on that lane means that I go there somewhat frequently....thus the experiences I've mentioned before.

    Everyone be safe and happy!

Hmmmm...RG...I wasn't referring to you...but thank you for letting us know once again how many years you've been coming down here as a tourist.

The fact your GS & quite a few other friends have properties on this road does indeed make you biased...that is obvious. And, I don't know what the argument is....Summerset is not an active lane anymore...my Jamaican friends don't recommend it for tourists and neither do I.

While, it's in all likelihood that someone may be perfectly safe...I would never in good conscience recommend any single female friend of mine to stay on this road at the present time.

whoa, that's a bit harsh, but I am in for a penny, in for a pound, going to be staying at Summerset Village, and will have to just find out for myself when I get there.

I think she is referring to the sparring match of words/opinions.

There's no one here in this thread for me to spar with...I live in Negril!

We're actually sitting around right now discussing this issue at Ivans with folks that live here in Negril (Jamaicans & expats) & we're all of the same consensus....Summerset is not the safest road for a tourist to be staying/walking in Negril. If you've chosen to stay there...take the precautions that have already been suggested.

That last sentence: "I would never in good conscience recommend any single female friend of mine to stay on this road at the present time." To me, those are some pretty powerful words. You have basically said it is too dangerous for a single female to be there. I was just surprised to read such a strong statement. You have given me a lot of food for thought, that is for sure.
