With the "blasts from the past" links I posted as well as the Tuesday photos, I was trying to demonstrate just how "lonely" Summerset Road is currently. The "lonely" term was used by a Jamaican friend of mine to describe the road. And it does seem to fit.
As Bnewb said, and as everyone I know who lives in Negril says, no one would be able to recommend in good conscience that a single female tourist stay on this road at the present time. There are way too many great places that are available to stay in Negril and there is no reason you would have to stay on Summerset Road.
Maybe there is a reason you got the room so cheap for a month. When a deal sounds too good to be true, often there is an underlying reason that is not obviously apparent...
That said, in all likelihood you will be fine and I am sorry if you feel this reality check is harsh. We all want you to have the best time possible. But maybe you should be questioning those who recommended this resort to you in the first place.
Please remember to be smart and aware of your surroundings. There are many great taxi drivers that will be able to take you from the resort to any place you want to go and back. Be sure to keep your phone charged and have plenty of credit to be able to call a driver should you need one.
