Update from the US Embassy in Kingston

Today I finally found that the US Embassy in Kingston has issued a Warden message reminder as follows:

    "Warden Messages

The U.S. Embassy in Kingston reminds U.S. citizens visiting and residing in Jamaica of the need for caution and awareness of personal security on the island. According to statistics prepared by Jamaican law enforcement authorities, crime levels have increased across the country in the early months of 2015, with homicides up 18% and robberies up 10% over the previous year’s rates."

This reminder for visitors and residents from the Embassy comes after all our discussions in other threads about the use of common sense and not getting too comfortable. as well as all the other great advice offered by many of our members. These discussions were well timed coming before the US Embassy Warden Message. Thank you all for helping our visitors to make their vacation the time they want it to be.

There has been no change to the US Governmnet International Travel website:

Thanks for posting. It might be useful to know crime increases by Parish or village. How much of this increase is crime on tourists, gang related, etc. My dear friends the Grandis built Mirage in the 1970s and had their house burnt down; they always cautioned me to take care. Intensive security, gated communities tells the painful story with deep roots into subjects that I teach, but are not appropriate to discuss here, today. I still love Jamaica and can't wait to visit next week!

Thanks for posting Rob. Indeed this board was well ahead of the U.S. Govt.'s message.
