So NO, I would not tip if I knew my server, bartender, or driver, or anyone else who would normally receive a tip, was making $100 an hour.

When it comes to tipping, prices should be raised and included in the costs, workers should receive a living wage, and customers should not feel required to tip so that someone can earn a living.

Where is the line drawn? What about the employee at Home Depot who barely makes minimum wage and doesn't have health insurance, who not only shows you where 10 different things are, but advises you on how to use them? Why aren't we handing him a wad of cash, but we do to the person that twists the top off our beer? I can go on and on about how the tipping culture is completely arbitrary.

I want to make very clear that I am not one of those people who doesn't tip - I tip well, and if you go above and beyond for me I tip extremely well. That being said, I'd rather see the bill go up 20%, employees get paid more, and then not have to tip at all unless service is actually exceptional.

Now when it comes to Lenbert and the bus, I assumed he was the owner, it's his bus, and the money is his. If that's the case, and he's being paid by all the bars he visits, AND sticking his hand out for tips from every person on the bus, he's double-dipping. If he's an employee and he works for someone else, that's a different story. I get that everyone loves the crawl and doesn't want to hear bad things said about it, but the truth is, if you knew the server at Dennys was making 50K a year, would you feel the same obligation to tip as when the server is making two bucks an hour?

Another thing that's not mentioned about the bus - they pack it so full, people sitting on laps, standing in the aisles, it's an accident waiting to happen, potentially a really bad one. I wonder how much insurance Lenbert carries?
You sound like you could use a vacation to Jamaica. Southwest has some great deals right now........

No one is REQUIRED to tip Lenbert. That said, I have, and will again any time I use his services in the future. My pub crawl memories are some of my best of Negril, and the $20-40 dollars we tipped over two crawls was worth every penny to me. It doesn't matter, to me, how much he makes, or how he makes it. He as a great host that took me places I'd likley not have been otherwise. His financial situation isn't important to me, but rewarding him for what I thought to be excellent service and showing us a wonderful time IS important to me, whether he makes $!5000 a year or $150,000. I'm not going to pay (tip) less for stellar service simply because I think he made enough money witout my help. Lenbert was tipped what I thought the services he provided were worth, and thats all I ask that anyone do

I have seen ppl. chastised from other guests & Lenbert himself for not leaving a tip as they got off the bus. So all you ppl saying it's worth being jammed into a bus way over capacity and you are still having fun i highly doubt it, and i do feel it's got to the point it is a accident waiting to happen.

This was the original post that started this thread. From there it went to denigrate the West Side establishments, Lenbert personally and his business in general.

Businesses come and go in Jamaica and it doesn't take much to ruin a good thing. Either by liking them TOO much or "smack talking" about them.

I've been following this thread (actually EVERY thread) for the past 2 months since I will be there in a week!! I went from definitely wanting to do the Pub Crawl to maybe to I guess not and now I'm back to "what the hell". I've only been to Negril once (10 years ago) and I want my new bride to love it as much as I do so we can come back often. We are both fairly "quiet" people and I thought this would be a good way to get out of our comfort zone and meet some new people and see some places we probably won't see if we don't go on the crawl. I've worked in the "service" industry all my life so the whole tipping thing is irrelevant to me and I'm not wealthy by any means but $4 for a beer overlooking the ocean doesn't sound like the worst thing to a guy from the mid west. I also don't want to start a new chapter of my life on an accident waiting to happen Help me out here please.

    Dan,

I thought this would be a good way to get out of our comfort zone and meet some new people and see some places we probably won't see if we don't go on the crawl.
You gave the best reason to do this. Everyone has an opinion. I did it once and enjoyed it a whole lot. Personally, I don't really like hanging with tourists as I live in Jamaica but I met a nice group of people, learned of a few places that I haven't been before and also reinforced some opinions why I didn't like some places but all was good.

Do something once and they call you a "newbie", do it twice and you get promoted to "expert". Three or more times you need to see a psychiatrist!

Lenbert runs a good business and he takes care of his passengers. Overloaded? sometimes. But, after all, this is Jamaica and if you don't want an adventure stay at home and watch the Travel Channel.

    Just my personal opinion.
