In March the prices were up also. Couple of stops had Red Stripes for $3, the rest was $4.

Cute. but I believe highly inaccurate. Perhaps one of your friends came up with that or you did to be cute but that being what "the locals call it" is over the edge.

The crawl is fun if you're new to the west end or want to introduce a newbie to it. After that I'd suggest just doing your own "crawl" once you know "the lay of the land". You'll have more time to enjoy the places you like and not have to keep moving on to different places you don't find as enticing.

I was told that lenbert collects a fee from each bar he stops at. I don't know if that is a flat fee or calculated some other way (e.g. per drink). Either way there is overhead associated with the Crawl stopping there. That should still not be a reason to markup drinks. They should think of it as what they call a loss leader in the industry. That is you sell something at a loss or little to no profit and hope to make up the loss on the back-end with higher volume sales at normal markup. This is the whole idea around Happy Hours. Now if bars already have a happy hour special which is a loss leader and then are losing on added overhead because of the crawl, I can see where that could make it difficult to recoup the losses because the pub crawlers aren't going to stick around after happy hour and have full price drinks.

For sure Kevin and I would add that the lay of the land needs no introduction other than take a walk or a cab and stop there and anywhere and you will be welcome and at any hour for many places. I am not trying to dash the bus deal but marked up drinks is not cool. Agree that volume increase should offset the expense to the bus driver. If the increased prices for bus folks is true, then that could hurt business. Also, who picks the bars and what about those places not making the list. Seems unfair.

The places not making the list are the bars that do not pay a kickback. This kind of thing is just business as usual. Ride a JUTA or any other bus to Negril and the driver will likely palm some money depending on how many drinks are sold at the 'rest stop'. You may not see it happen; but it mostly does.
Don't jump on me defending your favourite driver please. Maybe they don't want to make extra money.
Happens in my city where sightseeing buses only stop at 'certain' souvenir stops/attractions. Why do you think that is?

Big_frank is correct...we've talked to many transfer drivers over the years & they've told us the exact same thing.

Nobody is demanding a higher standard of accuracy. Doing business is difficult enough in Jamaica not to have someone "slander" a business operator's reputation with second-hand suss.

Whether you were "accurate" in attributing this innuendo to a few people you know or not, it is totally unnecessary to even pass it on in the first place.

I have seen many businesses get mashed up by smear campaigns intended to do so or not.

I would have just accepted that you were trying to be "cute" because that would seem less malicious. If you meant "no offense" then "no offense" is taken by me. I guess that would be Lenbert's decision to accept your apology.

I was always under the impression that Lenbert worked for tips, and think that's been said here before as well. I feel like I've read it said specifically that Lenbert is only paid in the tips he receives and doesn't receive kickbacks!

If he's getting kickbacks at every bar, why are we "encouraged" to tip him $10 or more per person? Seems to me it should be one or the other, not both. Thinking of all the people he packs on that bus three times a week, if everyone is handing him $10 AND he's getting kickbacks, he's doing very well for himself on a part time schedule, all cash, presumably completely tax free.

When we were last there (more than a year ago) we were on the tour and were charged $5 or $6 at Belladonnas for Red Stripes, and a big deal was made by others here on the board... it's not the first time price gouging on the tour has come up here, and probably won't be the last.
