Execute litter bugs. Or a more friendly solution would be to pay those people that bum money/food/cigs 100J or 500J for each garbage bag they bring back....from the beach or beach road ...no cheating filling it with leaves or from dumpsters. Or....use forced labor....growing up on the Jersey shore (OCNJ) the police would arrest bad kids for biking on the boardwalk and other horrible crimes and the judge would sentence them to beach clean up duty. 20 youths would walk in front of or behind the grading tractor making sure the beach was in tip top shape. Negril might have some youths that do bad crimes that can clean up the beach. Solutions?
@ Stoner, every place I've chilled at has done an acceptable job cleaning their own property or at least where their clients would like to enjoy the sand. Where are you trying to chill that you feel the sand is to nasty?
While the Jamaican people need to take responsibility for themselves, I can certainly say for sure that we Americans are probably the worst. For many, many years... decades, in fact... I've walked in my town shaking my head and muttering... "Pigs raising pigs"... that's really all we are...
Just a idea, but maybe the hotels, and some for the little bars along the beach could put out the odd trash can, so the piggies can depost there trash. yea i know, who will empty the trash cans , when full. ? Im sure some one can come up with the answer to this ? maybe the guy who is always asking for a buck or a smoke or a beer . this is who.... just my 2 cents ........

I remember when the most common roadside litter was chewed sugar cane.

Agree. Manpower is certainly there.
Maybe everyone in all of Jamaica should recycle one plastic bottle also. The plastic bottle mess is gross .
Maybe Rob .. could shed some light on the programs ..that are available in Ja..
IE- recycling ...for the most part it seems as though alot of garbage is going up in flames ..icl. plastics
on the beach and the beach road i see so many of the white syrofoam containers everywhere.....what ever happened to good old cardboard?...couple rains and it disolves.....simple change like that can make a big difference......and a little effort behind gails cleanup efforts or programs would go along way....but it still comes down to the same thing...if it bothers you that much then join the effort and pick up a piece of trash or two....or at the very least dont be a part of the problem and at least pick up your own and dispose properly
And here is your answer, in addition to the private entities there are 4 collection centres around the island to collect bottles for processing and export.

And a new one just opened in the Rivertown Meadows section of Kingston.

As mentioned above by onthecorner, we can all do even a small part by picking up a piece of trash or two and by disposing it in the boxes and bins that are located all over Negril, the beach and roadways. Lead by example and become part of the solution!
