Never stayed there, but we've stayed across the street at HSH a few times. I've never actually seen anybody coming or going from Shady Rest. It's a budget/no frills place, for sure. No security, from I can tell, but I believe the property is gated.
mi go by der a lot on mi bike..typical yardie setup on the West End....it would be fine from what mi can see from the road......

Across from HSH is New Moon Cottages. I have stayed there for the past 27 years and would recommend it. Rooms $40 or so a night. Not fancy but run by great people.
I have stayed there twice. I travelled solo both times when I stayed there and never had any problems. David is the owner, he is a great man and true to his word. I would definitely recommend his accommodations As they are clean, safe, and reasonable!
