    Drinking in public?

Having grown up in the land of the free it never occurred to me about the rules in Jamaica for drinking in public.
Where can and cant you walk with a drink or beer in your hand. Not that I would want to run around town with a beer in my hand but I am curious about where it is possible.
Freedom in the USA is an illusion.

We take beers in the grocery store, all the stores in Time Square, all bars and restaurants (except Rick's but we rarely go there anyway), cambio, and the bank (many years ago). There's even a bar in the police station. My husband always takes a cooler full of Red Stripes to drink in the airport going home. He manages to finish them all before security.

Jeez....what happens if the security line is long.

The only place I have been told to pour mine out was at the gate to Rick's. We had walked up from Catcha.

Early trip while entering Hi-Lo grocery store, grabbed a cart and young man asked how many cases of Stripes I need. After he returned with a few, he reached in the cooler and grabbed a single and popped it open and while handing it to me he smiled and said "welcome to jamaica". I looked back like he was from mars, and he just said enjoy your shopping and walked back to register area.

A nice cold beer was a nice way to make my shopping selections and stroll around the store while shopping. He got a nice tip after helping me out and didn't even know that experience was instrumental in setting the "hook" thats kept me coming back to Negril for nearly 18 years. The second I step outside Sangster I can't tell you how truly free begin to feel.

Nice! And the service is always great at the Hi-Lo. Love that they often are passing out shots as well, letting vendors set up. The only time I have ever cussed them was when they ran out of bacon.

Freedom in the USA is a blessing and to me very real. Soldiers fight for our freedom. It may not be perfect but not an illusion in my view.

    Not an illusion here either!
