Re: From the Negril Chamber of Commerce

    Capt Oil,

I was sent this letter at 10:30pm on Thursday just after it had been typed up. I did not check my email until Friday after they sent me a second copy to urgently post the letter. I had to convert their Word doc into a jpg for posting purposes.

The letter came to me after 10pm on Thursday night because a meeting had gone late and the lack of a date is what is known as an oversight. The actions you ask about have already started. This has been mentioned by myself and several Boardies who witnessed them for themselves. Apparently you missed this thread discussing this earlier this week:

    http://negril.com/forum/showthread.p...-based-on-this!!!!

As mentioned in the Chamber letter, it would be wrong to divulge the details, common sense dictates it would inform the criminal element as well the public.

So to answer your questions best as possible, the letter was written Thursday night around 10pm. Improvements are already taking place according to the eye-witness first hand information by your fellow Boardie members. No dates or details will be divulged for common sense reasons.

It is not "empty talk" as you can read for yourself in a previously discussed thread. This letter from the Chamber was a more formal reply to that thread, as government agencies as well as the Chamber do read the Negril Message Board.

    Thank you for understanding.

Thanks Rob for communicating. And thanks to you, the board (for facilitating dialogue) and especially the chamber of commerce for such quick action. As many of us know, any acknowledgement of any type of problem would take weeks or months in the states and even longer for anything to be done about it.

Agreed! The only way to find solutions is to openly acknowledge that there is an issue and to welcome and encourage open discussion.

I realize because of the Jamaican government's track record this could be seen as empty promises. However this is Negril we are talking about. When the bread and butter of the local economy is threatened people are going to react.

The regular tourist need to keep voicing there concerns to make everyone aware that continued criminal activity is unacceptable and a deal breaker.

So glad to hear this, we were there during some of these actions and in 14 years of coming to Negril, we have NEVER seen as many Fully armed, bullet proved, police as then. Police patrol was active at all times of the night and day and it was a bit alarming. Glad to see Negril banding together to protect their beautiful area.
