Cell help
At Coco. I have an Iphone 5s with Verizon at home. First night here I connected to a Digicell tower but have been 'searching' ever since. Been up and down the beach but have never connected. Possibly a phone setting. Help appreciated, I am over 40 and my kids aren't here which renders me helpless technically.

Re: Cell help
Have you tried rebooting your phone? Sounds like your phone is having trouble connecting to a network. We have AT&T and the connection to Digicel usually happens automatically.
Please note, you will be roaming internationally on the Digicel network. If you don't have an international roaming plan, you will incur some hefty charges when you return home. Even if you have an international plan, the cost is not cheap.

Re: Cell help
If you don't have a Digicel SIM card in your phone you need to put it in airplane mode, or turn it off so you don't get a huge roaming charge on your bill.

Try this
Turn International CDMA On/Off - AppleĀ® iPhone 5
[Device-Specific Instructions]
Note Turning off International CDMA while in another country may improve poor messaging or data performance on a GSM network.
1.From the Home screen, navigate: Settings > Cellular > Roaming.
2.Ensure the Voice Roaming switch is turned on Switch On (in the green position).
3.Tap the International CDMA switch to turn on Switch On or off Switch Off.

Re: Cell help
Have you looked into cost before doing this?
Verizon charges $1.99 per minute for calls (sent and received) .50 per text sent, .05 per text received, and .02 per KB for data which is super expensive - That works out to more than $20,000 per GB!
Did you know that T-Mobile gives you unlimited texting and basic data for free to customers when they travel to JA? Calling is .20/minute (and free over WiFi) and high speed data can be purchased for $100 per GB.
