5 Glorious days and 5 days of hell...even in Negril!

Back from the most beautiful place on earth..IMO
The weather was perfect, the beach is beautiful as usual...was really slow, not too many people on the beach tried to buy as much as i could from the vendors walking/working the beach..really tough times when it slows down...it's just crazy how some people dont even bother to give them a chance...there was a couple lounging on the beach, i had just bought a pineapple and it was soooo delicious from the fruit lady, the couple said no to her and she just smiled and went on...i walked over to the couple and offered them some of my pineapple, after one slice...the man went running down the beach to buy his own...
the young fella that sells the banana bread and cookies...omg it's to die for delicious, and he has the most beautiful smile.

My first 5 days were Bliss, Except for one female beach girl, really pissed me off...she asked me if I wanted braids I was super polite and said no thank you, then she says you want some aloe, i said no thanks , then she says...ugh -this still makes my blood boil, how about a rasta man?, you need one of those??? I said to her, hold on let me ask my husband he's just in water snorkeling and I pointed over at him, she went on with her, respect, one love BS. I told my husband and then he of course had to hunt her down and give her a piece of his mind, and a LESSON on how to treat tourists, he was not happy, and of course she was sitting next to a rasta man,(perhaps the one she had in mind for me)...he then started telling her that's not right and made her apologize to me! it was awkward, but I was insulted, and I hope she never says that to anyone again.

Went to Canoe, thought it was webcast day, it wasnt! planned for Saturday Seastar, but then was told they were done webcasts for summer? not sure if that's true, couldnt use my ipad...so we just basically chilled and enjoyed the beach.
ok...now for my own personal hell...
I live in Canada, where it's freakin cold...I rarely get sick...Holy Mother...Went to bed and felt the back my ear was sore, I thought, weird...there was no water in it and it wasnt plugged, just sore, I slept through the night...woke up and it was plugged, couldnt hear anything, took some advil, felt better ..that night night felt like my ear drum had burst of course it's Saturday, went to the pharmacy, gave him my symptoms, he gave me some antibiotics and pain killers..figured thank God, hope this kicks in real quick...ummm nope... I have really cried in 20 years because of pain I cried my eyes out every night, I remember Rob telling me about Dr Foster, so first thing 9:00 am the office opens we are there even before the staff show up, they caME AT 9:05, they say the doctor doesnt come untill noon........by this time, I could barely walk...not to mention I cant hear anything for 4 days already, i felt like i was about to go mad...my poor husband tried everything to ease my pain, so he takes me to another Doctor, Dr.Grant I think a lovely Jamaican lady doctor, she says my ear infection has now absessed around the ear canal, and was very serious...so it was time for a needle in my bottom...........a real STINGER! enough to make me yelp out loud....anyways that took another day to kick in, I flew home on Wednesday with my ear in not great condition, it was very risky as the pressure from the plane could have caused some serious damage, but I survived...it wasnt plesant to say the least...Back in Canada now 2:25 am ear is still plugged, and I'm counting down for my doctor's office to open.
It's never happened before and I sure as hell hope it never happens again, thankfully my insurance will cover the medical costs.

I'm still pretty shaken from the accident on Norman Manley Blvd, I was standing the very spot it happened less than a minute before,I had just crossed the street and gone into the second locked up gate to NBCC, and heard a thump, not a good thump and then a loud bang, my husband was inside the gate waiting for the guard to come unlock it
when i looked through the gate there was a car that was flipped over and hit the tree infront of the gym, by the time the guard opened the gate there were people gathering and saying "man dead" I felt weak in the knees and nautious, my husband told me to get in the car and look away, we were both very shaken by the sound...I pray for whomever was in that car, that they survived...but by the looks of that accident, it's hard to say if someone can actually survive that, the worst part too, we didnt hear any brakes screeching, just the thump then the bang! Please be careful on the main road, extreme caution at all times.
Hopefully Christmas will be a better trip!!

Sorry Lapurr sounds like the ear problem bummed out your trip.Do you know what caused it?Sometimes an unclean pool or something in the sea water or even water getting into your ear can cause this,I have had an ear problem on holiday not Jamaica though and thankfully never had to bend over for a shot in the booty omg!Hope you are starting to feel a bit better let us know what the doctor says could have caused it.
I see you was insulted by asking do you want a man but the people ask because the industry is there and available to those who want it.If they never asked I guess they would not know who wants it and who does not. That can't be your first time getting asked can it?
I along with a lot of people here can get asked breakfast lunch dinner and supper and for snacks if we need a male companion! You get used to it,it's just one of those things. Some women do ,some women don't I do not let it affect my holiday in any way at all I take the question with a pinch of salt as I do any of the questions I get asked.I either buy or I don't.If I get an attitude in response to me not wanting a product that is only when I will get a bit mad.I have found all of the vendors I have dealt with friendly and respectful I just let them know that I only have money for what I really want and need and even though I would love to I cannot purchase everything from everyone. They understand and they still bring more products to me just to check there is nothing else I need and/or want!
At first the vendor thing was a bit scary for a newbie but then as years went by I see it as part of the holiday just as I know when I go to greece I will be bombarded with vendors wanting to drag me into their restaurant or in spain they want to get me in every bar or to have henna tattoos and overpriced hairbraiding or in Turkey they will sell trips at every single corner you walk.Every country has it's vendors they just sell a different product.
Sorry to hear about the accident,There are so many on the main stretch of road.I hear speed bumps were being put in to place did that ever happen?
The road situation is something to be very aware of.
The seastar webcast was down because they are closed for a while while they do upgrades to the property,oh what a shame you missed that , Hope you found some other fun places to hang out.So did your ear start at the beginning of the trip? Was there no fun at all this trip?

:s I'm not sure how I'd handle a woman asking me if I want a Rasta Man on the beach.. being that i'm travelling alone I wont have a husband to point out... I really hope your husband said enough that she wont approach women like that or I could be the next one to encounter this and that could be a messy situation

That is horrible about your ear on vacation too! I'll have to remember if anything happens while I'm there next week to see Dr. Foster

Actually Lisa, I remember very CLEARLY, the day Rob told me about Dr.Foster,we were on a full bus and we had to get dropped off because Jazz was ill. I can actually tell you the exact date if you need me to go into my journal...you were not present that day we all went for the pizza party becuse you were ill that day, and sadly we missed out on seeimg you!
So I dont appreciate being called a liar. Whether Rob had been there or not, I have no clue, I just asked for a doctor and where to find one, and he was helpful; enough to lead us to one.

Manda, I'm sure you will be fine, it is good to know just incase, and Dr.Grant is amazing and I would reccomend her, have a wonderful time.Sorry to hear about your dog, it's just been over a year we had to put our Golden Retriever down, he was 14, I still cry for him...he was my best friend, but they are good tears, happy memory tears.

Lapurr: Hope your ear is feeling better soon, glad you made the most of your trip though!

Manda81: You can always have a husband "He's right over there" pointing at a crowd or "He's at the bar" lol!

Whoa...Lapurr...I didn't mean it like that at all! I would never call you a liar.
All Rob can remember is that he may have told you where Dr. Foster was located...but what I was trying to simply say was that Rob and I have never been to Dr. Foster...so we can't recommend him...but we've been to Dr. Grant & can recommend her. I hope I'm making sense this time.

    Gerry,

Why would anything be deleted? It is the truth and no one is mentioning/promoting illegal activities...

Hey Tic, hope I did the quote thing ok, I have been asked in the past by the men and I just joke them off, they ask if they can swim with me and do i need company and you know typical men stuff, one time a man said "you look like a piece of cake" Hell I look like the whole dam cake!! lol, but this time coming from a woman..just felt wrong...and i can find my own man, so maybe i was a little insulted.

About the speed bumps I know there was talk of it, but not sure if anything was decided on, i think the speed bumps would be a great idea, and just the day before we were watching the news and they spoke about traffic fatalities down 6% from the same time last year. So there is a small improvement, I was happy to see the police on the roads with routine stops, more than usual.

I did enjoy my 10 days in Negril, despite the ear infection..the pain meds helped a lot, so i was able to enjoy the days...just didnt get to snorkle and I love snorkeling.

gerry, Christmas can not come soon enough.
