    Community Service

I'm helping my niece prepare for our Christmas trip and she wants our group of 20 to do a clothing, school supplies and/or community service while in Negril. Can you please provide some contact information that she can reach out to?

I've already provided her with St. Anthony's Kitchen and Father Jim

    Thank you

I don't know how to post a link to a post (hoping that makes sense) - but if you look down the list of threads here and find the one posted by Moonlight Villa about the New Negril Free Art School, maybe this could be a spot some of the group would be willing to help?

There are many opportunities to give in Jamaica. I hope a lot of Boardies post their favorites, to give your niece some choices. Certainly, St. Anthony's is a golden choice! You can also go to the FB page for Negril Rotary - who work hand in hand with St. Anthony's, support the Get the Kids to School Programme, and much much more. There is also a Brother with Fr. Jim whose parish is in the hills and would love the help, if you want to give them an "out of the box" out of Negril option. Fr. Jim would be happy to put you in touch with Fr. Brian (? ... sorry, I don't recall his name, but Fr. Jim will).

PM me if you would like a school in the Negril area, but out of the mainstream.

My daughter is a vet tech and had a totally awesome experience with local vet .... again, PM if they would like to do that with animals.

I hope they have a wonderful time and enjoy and grow from the experience.

    Re: Community Service

In 2006, my 2 kids and friends did a school supply drive for their upcoming trip to Negril and they needed community service hours for graduation from their high school. We went to Mt. Arye (sp?) to present the teachers with the supplies. The students were so excited to show my kids their classrooms and projects. My daughter was on the school newspaper and did a really nice article for it that fall. The school was very impressed and gave each 20 hours credit for their "hard" work plus a lot of jealous classmates asking if I could 'adopt' them......
