Nervous about going back to Negril

We went in March and everything was perfect - weather, people, food, music, etc. We are planning a return trip this year. We had been thinking about possibly May now September is also a possibility. I am nervous that the second go will not be as good as the first. Paranoid about showing up at the wrong time and missing the good music.

Weatherwise, I'd be more nervous going in September (hurricane season) than in May.

I would not worry about your second trip not being as good as the first. Every trip to Negril is irie, regardless of the time of year. If you go during the slow season, there may not be many big name musical acts but there will still be plenty of great local musicians.

Personally, I would try to avoid Jamaica in September, due to hurricane season. Too much risk of travel problems and a washed-out vacation. However, we have been to Negril twice in early November, and the weather has always been great.

September is HUMID but I have been three times to The Rock during that month (was there over 9/11/01) and you will still have a great time. While possible I would not fret over hurricanes, they do not affect the island that much but to CYA I would suggest trip insurance that time of year. Life is too short to worry about thing that are not in your control.

Thanks for the feedback. Local shows/jam sessions at the Boat Bar and Roots Bamboo and the such are what I was thinking about. Good info on weather too. Thanks

I've been there in Feb and March and also have been there in May, June, July and August. I definitely prefer the winter months, not just because the weather is crappy here and beautiful there but because the summer seems so eerie quiet up and down the beach.....I'm sure it's really not but that is just how it makes me feel....that, and it's damn hot and humid in the summer......

My wife and I have gone many times in Sept. (it's our anniversary). You'll find a lot of restaurants closed. The boat bar is usually closed in mid-Sept.. Drifters may still host daytime live music. It's very peacefull on the beach. The venders can be a bit more insistant, due to the slow time, no tourists, and no business.

Either will be a very different feel from March. Sept is really really quiet, May is probably better for you.
