    Departure Tax from Mobay?

    Boardies -

Quick question - Is there a departure tax that is paid at the airport when one is leaving Jamaica, and, if so, how much?

I cannot recall if we have to pay or not to leave the country / airport. (Not that I really want to leave, but I have to get home and go to work to pay for the furnace that just decided to call it quits while I was on a business trip to LA this week. Arrg! ) I've called the airline (Southwest) and such a fee is not included in the tickets I purchased (on frequent flier points) - though were basically taxed for everything else. So much for "free" tickets. Least our bags fly for free!!

So, I'm wondering - does a departure tax exist or have I mixed up my countries? (I travel ALOT for work and basically countries/airports/hotels just start to blend and look the same. )

    6 more days!!!

    Thanks all!

Hmmm....I've found this point of reference on the web. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g1...rture.Tax.html

Looks as if I purchased a ticket the departure tax is included. Since I got an "iffy" answer from Southwest, I'll just set aside about $50 US just in case. If we don't have to cash out on our departure, that will buy us a nice lunch on the way home. (Though I suspect it's included).

Departure tax has been included in the air ticket price for years now. You don't have to pay anything when you leave.

Yes, thank you. I just reviewed the US / Jamaica travel fees charged to my credit card for two tickets. I believe it's the "travel tax". See below.

    Base Fare $0
    U.S. Security Fee $22.40
    U.S. Customs User Fee $11.00
    U.S. APHIS User Fee $10.00
    U.S. Immigration User Fee $14.00
    Jamaica Passenger Levy $40.00
    Jamaica Tourism Enhancement Fee $40.00
Jamaica Passenger Service & Security Fee $22.02
    Jamaica Airport Improvement Fee $10.00
    Jamaica Passenger Facility Charge $6.00
Jamaica Passenger Aviation Service Charge $16.00
    Jamaica Travel Tax $31.26
    Total Air Cost $530.68

lol They rolled them into the "Jamaica Tourism Enhancement Fee" which is different from the "Jamaica Passenger Levy" but similar to the "Jamaica Passenger Aviation Service Charge" or as I call it, the $125 Exit Gratuity + $1 per night per person Bed Tax. It's all good and I have no problem paying, just wish I had more time to spend there, It's worth the price of admission or should I say Exit?

Our tickets were $240 round trip with almost $160 in taxes, fees, and other charges .............. no wonder airlines have trouble making money.
