The reason that the NIH is making donations across the island is to get things moving as there is still environmental and economic impact studies awaiting completion of the two projected build sites.

The NIH does not want to simply stand still and wait, so they are helping in areas where they can as they get final approval to break ground.

This is a major project, almost an entire community than a simple hospital.

Thank you for the update. So basically, their projection of a 2015 time frame opening is null and void since the NIH still hasn't received the go ahead to put a shovel in the ground. Too bad, though not at all unexpected. Would still be a wonderful gift to the town of Negril itself if they'd pop for another ambulance.

Sadly(..???..), the current status of the project, and the actions/donations/etc thus far is an excellent example of folks having to deal with the Jamaican "...soon come.." thing-y, mentality, stylee, prioritization, etc.

Rob's comments make a lot of sense, but for some reason, in the back of my mind, i'm hearing nagging voices saying:::>>> "..what about the intiation and COMPLETION, of HUGH projects like the Grand Paladium resort (outside Lucea)...??.."

did it take the GrandPaladium developers this long to get those so-called impact studies..??...

    yep yep,
    an "..entire community..."
    as is/was the GrandPaladium resort.

That resort/property is HUMONGOUS...!!..:::: it's an entire town...!!.. Takes up more space than Lucea-town.

the upside, which may be predictive of things to come, once/whenever the hospital project is completed:::>>> Jobs..!!!....

for a few *selfish* reasons, mi-personally, still don't like that GrandPaladium thing-y, but the jobs & positive economic impact it has created for Lucea-folks, and many many MANY others in the area is/has been tremendous.

    Additionally,
something i've come to *appreciate* about Jamaica's *soon-come* style, with big-projects is that they seem to have a tendency to anticipate & prepare for the future ---- however, NOT in the same way we do in-foreign.

    for example,
recognizing the need for a qualified work-force,
in preparation for increased tourist-industry development in the Lucea area, they opened-up, expanded, etc their training programs for tourist related jobs. .... rather than wait, they started the work-force preparations YEARS BEFORE the ground was broken for the GrandPaladium.

    i wouldn't be surprised
if they do a similar thing for this hospital project:::::>>>>> new schools, training programs for hospital support, staff, etc.

    ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    i'm vague-ly
recalling see-ing a sign some-someplace(?) just outside Lucea, on the main road about something-something(?) being built soon for some-kind(?) of training program.

    ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
