There is no reason for them to take credit card details if they have your driving license number or passport and the required rental fee and insurance .No need at all.

Well, I stand corrected... $250 deposit, no deductible - for $90 a day sounds like you would save money over hiring and be covered..
I have rented in Mexico, although I don't have much experience, I think I would drive there.. just wasn't aware of a option that didn't require a large cc deposit.. of course let us know your experience..
I have rented scooters, but only a $500 deposit was asked for, and I talked him into a 50$ deposit one time, and a zero the other..
