Great news about the cans of Red Stripe! A lot lighter to carry!
Yep, old goat is spot on! It IS Red Stripe on tap, seen the kegs delivered myself.
I want to apologize for coming off as a bit of an ass, and you guys are right - I don't know Maurice, only what I've seen a bit of and heard from friends who live and work in Negril. I'll try not to be a "troll" here if I can help it. There's a lot I could say to respond to Robs post (and others), but I'll just let it go.
That being said, to say I was attacking him, and then not acknowledging that others were doing the same to me isn't exactly honest.
Anyway, on to the subject of beer.
All things being equal, meaning freshness, bottles and cans SHOULD taste exactly the same. The canned red stripe and the bottled red stripe tasted exactly the same to me.
I think I know why I have an aversion to the Red Stripe I've had on tap - I think that they don't bother to clean the lines as often as they should and that will definitely affect things and give it an "off" flavor. Maybe I'm more sensitive to it than most, I don't know.
Don't sell yourself short Harry. You weren't coming of as a Bit of an ass.
Sorry I forgot you're more sensitive than most.
I've seen this here before. Someone has an unpopular opinion, maybe says some things that aren't exactly positive about the places and people in Negril, and others feel it necessary to give that person a hard time.
So I'm sensitive, and others are immature. I can live with that. I think I'm done with the bickering back and forth, have a great night.
HarryS,
Thank you for your apology. I also live and work in Negril and have for the past 20 plus years, so there is a good chance some of those friends you have talked to are also friends of mine.
While you feel that Dash "took a shot" at you, which he apparently did, that was based upon a comment you made about yourself. Patricia didnt attack you, she just called it like it was and pointed out the obvious because as you have admitted, you never spoke to the owner. The owner did not post here so you couldnt have used his words, and you called him an extremely offensive term and directly attacked his business method. No one here did anything close to that to you so no one was "doing the same" to you as you claim.
As the owner/operator of this forum, I removed your libelous words from your post. No one else posted libelous comments about anyone other than you in this thread. That is the honest truth.
Back to the beer, your aversion to draft Red Stripe puzzles me. Although you make a supposition about the lines, apparently you are not aware that in order for a bar to carry draft Red Stripe, the bar must allow the Red Stripe reps to check and change the lines when necessary, maintain the proper storage and temperature and otherwise insure the quality of the their product. That is why most bars in Negril do not carry Red Stripe draft. It takes an investment in special equipment and extra time that the bottled products do not require.
Once again, you are entitled to share your opinions, but you are not entitled to post misleading and untrue information to others based on nothing but false conjecture.
And in my opinion, the bottled Red Stripe does indeed taste different than canned Red Stripe, as does the draft. I have had it all over the island with the same results. It does seem to be most noticeable in Kingston, where many bars carry bottled, canned and draft Red Stripe as well as Heineken.
