Booger and Doc. I was needlessly snarky and pretentious in my post. I knew it as soon as I posted. I apologize profoundly. There is no place on this board for rudeness.
However, I stand by my point. I was trying to say (badly, it would seem) that the meaning of "homely" in Jamaica is the same as the meaning of "homey" in the USA and Canada.

Interestingly if you look it up, homely is generally thought to mean unattractive in North America, while the definition can mean simple, but cozy and comfortable, for British. It's its own antonym.

Moondance was the most amazing and wonderful place to stay. We stayed in the 4 bdr villa in 2010 for a week. It was perfect for my 79 yr old mother to be on the ground floor and the rest of us on the 2nd floor. The cook and bar tender were the greatest. The location is perfect. My Jamaican friends were also welcome to visit at any time. Yes, it was a bit pricy but if you got 4 rooms at a AL it really came out better since you don't have to wait in line for meals, everything was cooked to order. It was quite and we had some prime family time. This was a gift to us from our mother. She wanted to do 1 last trip with us out of the country. Now her doctor did not think we should be going to a 3rd world country but she was determined to go. We had the time of our lives that trip! Little did we know we would lose our dear mother exactly 1 year later. Moondance Villas will always hold a special place in the Knaub family hearts.
