A $150 1/4 Oz? I can get a full Oz for that, if not cheaper, at home! $200 an oz for stuff I'd put up against any "high grade" or "medical" they're growing on the island. Prices are dropping because of legalization. There's a lot of legally grown decent domestic product being illegally dumped on the streets, lowering prices.
The legal market is too tightly regulated and more importantly, too small so prices remain artificially inflated. Imagine what would happen if every liquor store only sold a couple of the most expensive top shelf brands? The average "Joe" in the legal states are not getting their stash at a dispensary. Dispensaries are very much "boutique operations" at this point.
I corrected my friend when he said "ah man I got ripped off!". I reminded him he got what he agreed to pay for so nobody ripped him off. He agreed on the price. He didn't have to buy it.
I got the impression they didn't enjoy their trip and won't be back. Some people just don't know how to deal with hustling...which is their own fault, but it's sad because here's another group that won't likely return.

* sigh *
a BIG *SIGH*
WHEREAS,
compared to back-in-the day,
I can call Jamaica much-much cheaper:::::
JUST got off the phone
with my Lucea-landlord
mi-SAY:::>> '''... how much, would *stuff* would i get from **person-X**, whose selling in-country @ retail, if i'm gonna pay Ja$4,000...'''
he-SAY:::>>> ''' depends ... on quality, but could get at least 1-pound, or a pound & a half...''''
.
.
.
.
lemme share a couple thread/topic-*related* stories with you-alls
1....ONCE upon,
quite a few times
my Lucea-country neighborhood guys would
try to talk me into
becoming a weed-vendor
dem-SAY:::>> """...Bill.... since you go over-so to Negril, and know a few tourist, blah blah blah...'''
* sigh *
of course FIRST me-SAY::::>>> '''... You take me for an idiot...''
and we all laugh together
2...It's a familiar joke
in-country
to chat 'bout going over to Negril to sell something to tourists at inflated prices, 'cause tourists are use-to paying US $xxxxxx, back in-foreign

The way I see it....If I'm *overpaying* at 40 a QP, just consider it another contribution to the economy. its certainly a better deal than I can get here at home, and, should I choose to I can keep on burning throughout my vacation and never feel as though I'm bieng wasteful or overspending. I actually probably come out FAR ahead on my weekly smoke budget when I'm in Jamaica compared to what I'd consume $$ amount wise here in the US during a given week, while smoking a MUCH larger amount.....
Reminds me of a lil story about "overpaying"...
just got picked up by Alfred in the van(rest his soul), we start heading to Negril but another 2 couples came in and refused to get in with Micheal (smaller car, bla bla...) so we turned around to pick them up- no biggie...
So we stop at the gas station in MoBay and of course there are people there swinging herb to the 'fresh from foreign'. As Alfred goes in to pay for gas- this new passenger buys less than 1 spliff worth for $4000 jamaican! The lady with him is freekin out- "what are you doing, you don't even smoke!?!?!?" The other guy "Do you even know how much $4000 jamaican is?" The guy had no idea at all how much $ he just gave the man...
Alfred was super pissed at him and it changed the whole vibe. Then 2 minutes later there was flashes of headlights- Alfred warns us there might be a road block ahead. The guy immediately tosses the small handful out the window. Alfred now- super pissed... once we dropped them off- vibe came back and we laughed our arses off.
But I guess you could call this "overpaying" bahaha
super-duper BIG * sigh *
i've said it before,
and i'll say it again::::>>>> '''''...DO your homework ... do your research .... due diligence...'''
* sigh *
and:::>>>> me-personally, DO NOT trouble my likkle pea-brain with matters that involve '''...helping the Ja-economy...'''
'cause THAT Ja-economy stuff is Jamaican voters' bizness
i *help* the Ja-economy with my US-tax dollars ---- e.g., USAID money, and other USofA government & NGO monies that trickle down there.

Frankly, I'd be more concerned with setting off the K9's in US Customs.
Great story murph
