Not another Negril fixture gone?!!

I received a call this morning telling me that another old time friend and businessman has been taken from us. I was told that we have lost Prento who has rented bikes and cars on the beach for what seems like forever. This is not some rude bwoy who was trying to rob someone and got what he deserves; this is someone who over the years has built up his business little by little with hard work and determination. Prento was always such a nice guy with a good sense of humour and smile who always treated me fairly whenever we did business ;he will truly be missed. I don't know all of the facts yet but I do know that some very nice original people from Negril have been taken in the last few years . I can only hope that if they haven't already the police will start trying to solve these crimes as if it was a tourist girl missing from Sandals. Someone needs to figure this out before anyone else is lost.

Condolences to his family and friends during their time of loss. Just a reminder, think of these people and please keep from posting rumors and speculation. The police are treating this as well as other matters very seriously.

Rob; I understand the concern about speculation, I really do. However, I feel like the people should have the opportunity to be as informed as possible about the goings on in everyone's (here anyway) favorite vacation spot. The uptick in violence is pretty concerning to a lot of folks. I realize this is your site, and I say this with all due respect.

Thanks for asking. This allows us all to see why we do not want rumor or speculation posted on Negril.com.

With all due respect, people are being informed as much as possible about what is happening. That is why this thread is here, to inform people. On TripAdvisor they would remove this thread. We do not.

The poster did not have the facts of what happened, nor do I. I have heard some varying things, but cannot confirm any of them. The incident did not even happen in Negril, but at his home outside Negril. So to infer this is an uptick of violence in Negril is inaccurate speculation.

It is this type of rumor and speculation that does not inform anyone, but misinforms them and can cause further harm to the family and friends of Prento. Until the facts are known I once again ask all to refrain from rumor and speculation as it does nothing to inform anyone.

Facts that can be confirmed are always welcome and they help to inform. But what is the point of adding rumor or speculation? This is a real person with a real family and real friends. Lets keep it real for them.

This is very sad, I visited with Prento just this past June. He was a very nice man!

I'm in shock & saddened ...I've been doing business with Prento for the last 10 years...had his personal cell # to make my yearly motorcycle reservations..he always picked me up at the Negril Aerodrome...just can't believe it. He was such a kind soft spoken man....rest in peace
