    Best way to send money?

    Hi,

I would like to send some money down to a friend and was wondering if anyone has done this and the best way to do it. Thanks for the feedback ahead of time.

You can send money via Western Union, Money Gram or Xoom.
Make sure your friend has proper ID so they can legally pick up the money. There is a limit on how much you can send...I think it's around $250.00us...

Smokehouse, I have never sent money to Jamaica, but had a conversation in June with Rob from Negril.com.

The link below is dated 2013 and details restrictions on sending money via Western Union from USA to Jamaica. I don't know what if any limitations are currently being enforced, hopefully another boardie can assist.

The discussion I had with Rob evolved around several issues, but the two I remember are that the Jamaican Government is trying to figure out how best to tax the incoming funds. Also, the person picking up in Jamaica may need proper identification.

    Good luck,

I have always used Western Union and up to last week was the easiest way to go.

If it's a one or two time thing Western Union is good.

Sending money frequently works best with an ATM card in Jamaica

You can send more than $250 but above $1,500 they may question if its lottery scam money and will probably ask 'what is this for and who is it from, how do you know this person?'. The recipient needs a national ID and a TRN card, both with the same name on it as the name you send it in, so you have to be very precise about them having both forms of ID and exactly what the name on them is and how its spelled. Also they need to know the full name that YOU are sending it from, and the transaction number.

Just send it to me, I will be sure that your friend gets it.
