    We keep hearing...

..that you have to keep your expensive phones hidden from "prying eyes" down here...so I thought I would share a "feel good" story that happened to our friends last month...'tis the season after all.

While it's good advice to be aware of and safe in your surroundings at all times anywhere in the world...we recently had friends leave behind their expensive Samsung phone on the shelf of the ATM...they panicked, went back to see if it was still there and it was gone.
Assuming they would never see it again...they got hold of another phone and let us know that they would be getting a cheap Digicel phone in the morning.

Later in the evening, I get a phone call from the gentlemen that had found the phone...he figured out to call the last number in their phone and attempt to trace it back to the owner.
After a few confusing moments...it was me that was confused and I had to hand the phone over to Rob because he was speaking full blown Patois...we managed to get the phone back to our friends. This gentlemen dropped the phone off to their hotel front office late in the evening and never received nor asked for any compensation.

We hear the warnings all the time but the reality is that it's no different than anywhere...be cautious with any item that you don't want to lose...and while there are bad people out there, we also have a whole lot of wonderful folks...we have a ton of these "feel good" stories!

    Happy Holidays Everyone!!

Even little items are returned. We forgot a $20 water container in a taxi one evening. The next day we were out for a walk on Manley Blvd and were waving taxis on as they tried to stop for us. One was persistent and we were pleasantly surprised to find it was our last evenings driver with our water bottle. Guess who we looked for when catching a taxi after that! Thanks again Johnny! You're awesome!

We arrived Thanksgiving Day. My brother-in-law forgot his small carry-on that had money and passports. Our driver Ashton Pitt was like 20 minutes away and came back to us and returned it. This was my in laws first trip. Lots of people ( which have never been to Jamaica) had gave them stern warnings of danger. Needless to say, he is planning their next trip .

I have had a walking cane returned by a cab driver. I left the cane in the cab and the man came back from Sav to return it. I left my bank card in a machine in Falmouth and a woman ran down the street after me to return it. Relax people; you're among friends.

One of the experiences from my first trip in 1984 was what keeps me coming back. I was dragging my Pentax SLR and zoom lens around. We stopped at a roadside barrel grill and started to sample the chicken, pork, lobster and fish. At some point the chef suggested we step around the hedges and sit down on his bench in the front yard. A little goy came out to chat with us until we were so stuffed we had to call it quits. We stopped at a restaurant to get some dishes to balance out all the meat. Two full meals and key lime pie latter we drove back to our room at Twater. "Oh, crap!" I had left my camera at the barrel grill. I jumped in the car and drove back. The chef greeted me before I could even get out of the car, "Mon, you left your camera." He went to the house and returned with the bag. "Maximum, Respect!" was well earned.
We're all in this together and none of us is getting out alive.
