Just my $.02........we started going to Sandals Negril in 92 and for 12 years we barely left the resort......Great place, but in 04 after walking the beach we seen another side of Negril.......we started staying at places other than the AI along the Beach and have not been back to Sandals since........Its just a whole different experience that is much more enjoyable with the great restaurants available thru out the beach area.......You just have to be sometimes a little aware of the vendors along the beach and just understand they are just trying to make a living......but, I've learned to not stop and just show respect with a "Firm" No Thank you.........We go for two weeks a year in Feb and I've really never had a problem over all the years.........

I like both kind of trips AI and small hotel. Not a chance Sandals is anywhere close to torture.

Lol, It felt like it knowing we had to get through a week at Sandals Mobay, before we could get to Negril.

I say torture tongue in cheek, but it really wasn not very good. Lining up for food, drinks, more food and so on. It took one trip wandering around Negril, doing whatever I wanted to do that has left a bad taste in my mouth for All Inclusive. That said, I did do a week at Grand Pineapple that was pretty good as AI's go. Must have been the smaller setting, not as many people , No playmakers yelling into a mic to get you going.

So here is our story. Honeymoon, 1993, trying to figure out where to go, saw ad for Sandals in Brides Magazine, started investigating, seemed like a pretty good deal. Food, drinks included, exotic enough location, easy flight from Louisville, KY through Atlanta to Montego Bay. Get there and the place seems nice enough, meet a bunch of people that seem to be having a good time. Meet a Jamaican man on his break over on the private island (we were staying at Sandals Royal). Start talking to this Jamaican man and he starts to educate us on the history and story of Jamaica and it's people. Every day for the rest of our trip, we meet him on his breaks, hang out with him after he gets off, etc. On the day before his day off, he asks if we want to go in to Montego Bay with him so he can show us his hometown. Of course, we would love to do that. We have to meet him across the street from Royal at a shopping center. If he was seen offsite with guests of the hotel he would have been fired. We had a great day touring the city. We came back 2 years later, to Sandals again. We came back 4 years after that. He moved on from Sandals and we followed him to another Montego Bay all-inclusive. We eventually wanted to see other parts of Jamaica so we started taking day trips to Negril and eventually we started staying there all of the time. We will be in Jamaica for the 26th time this February in Negril. Sandals isn't all bad, it's definitely what you make of it. I understand them putting up the signs. Ignore them like you do speed limit signs and other things you don't agree with. The Jamaican that we met now lives in the states and we talk to him every week.
