Single male looking for budget place to stay. west end or beach acceptable
Been to Negril many times since the early 80's. coming down in Jan or Feb. Looking for a place to stay either on West End, the Beach or both. Doesn't need to be fancy, just cozy and safe. Im sure there are many threads about this, but one of my favorite things to do is eat in Negril. Soooo good. Suggestions for that are welcome too. Who is good to book a day of snorkeling with? Anyone rent a motorcycle lately? Have to get a bike ride in. Link to a good road map?

Two inexpensive places are Firefly on the beach
http://www.jamaicalink.com/
And Jah B's across the street from the beach
http://www.negril.com/jahbs/
Both have room's with private bathrooms and ones with shared outside facilities so if you want to pay a bit more to get private. Firefly is really nice and Jah "Bs is more of a locals yard type but clean,
Whichever you stay at you can rent cycles in front of Jah'B's

Quality's Sea Breeze Restaurant and Bar for some awesome seafood! Just down a bit and across the road from Canoe.

~Just my two cents worth - I mostly only comment on places I've seen and or eaten at personally.

On the West End, most people will recommend Sea Star. It's an excellent option, if you don't mind not being on the water. You can also get a good rate at Catcha Gardens for a fan cooled room. Jan/Feb is quickly approaching, so the popular places might have limited availability.
A good budget option on the cliffs with a sea view is Negril Escape. Very good security, comfortable rooms and excellent cliff access. When we stayed there, the overall property was in need of a little cosmetic maintenance but I understand that they now have new management who are addressing this. Frankly, if I was staying there as a single guy I wouldn't mind the minor issues - my wife, on the other hand, was not pleased with the worn out resort. Last I checked, you can get a room during high season for less than $90. Depending on your budget, I would also suggest Home Sweet Home on the cliffs. Advertised prices are higher than NE, but the property is of a higher quality (recently renovated in the last couple years). Visit their website and contact Charlie directly to get a better rate. HSH is smaller than NE and has a better vibe, IMO. The restaurant at HSH is also underrated. Monty is an excellent cook and it's not uncommon to find him buying fresh fish on the cliffside, when the fishing boats come in for the day.

I liked the rustic cottage at Kuyaba. Good place to stay for a single dude. Now for good eats >>>> Kuyaba, Shark's, Ltu Pub, Ciao Jamaica, Coconut International....just to name a few.

Knowing your budget would help narrow it down.
I think most of the places mentioned in this thread can be had for less than $100/night (in high season). I would consider that low to mid-range. I would consider places like Catcha Falling Star, Nirvana and Idle Awhile high end.
