Smith - you can cook dinner for me anytime.... I have had a few meals in Jamaica that consisted of shirley biscuits, ting and water crackers. I am also a fan of the tinned chicken sausages on the water crackers with a little taste cheese. Discount dinner for sure!

Ok, now I've got to check out the foreign food section at my local stores. I swear I've never seen anything in the canned food aisle, so I'll have to search in earnest. The only Jamaican food I've seen locally is Patties in the frozen food section. I'm hoping the (real) fresh patties in Jamaica taste better than the frozen ones I've tried.

    TRY this:::

check with folks you know from Africa, SouthAmerica, Mexico, Ethiopia, and of course from-Jamaica folks
ask 'em WHERE they get their food stuff

    i guarantee you'll find what ya want/need.

the Africans use a LOT of same things they use in Jamaica --- might/probably be *different* name(s) ... but basically the same
...if it's African, it's Jamaican .... and visa versa

    and
    in those-type stores/markets
frequently better quality & definitely better price$

    lol
    lol
    lol
    lol

    no need to ''..hope..''
ALL the on-island patties are better

    lol
    lol
    lol

BUT::>> there are *differences* from place to place

    for example,
a popular brand is Tastee patties
[[ 'cause they got a LOT of sugar in 'em ]]
me stopped eating them, when i saw big-truck bringing to store FROZEN

i prefer my patties made fresh daily from scratch.
e.g., i like TanTan patties, but i'm not for-sure, but i *think* the only TanTan that makes 'em *fresh* is in Lucea ..... and even here, it all depends on who's in the kitchen making 'em (( which is always the case, of course, when it comes to cooking, restaurants, etc.)

an aside::::>> i'm always tickled with board-comments 'bout food tasting so good at one place or another ---- then others go-down-der, and try the place and don't find it so great .... lol lol lol lol .... staff & cooks change down-yonder all the time ..... change quicker than i change my underwear

    finally,

    check this video below,
from one of my recent trips

    'twas at MissSonia's
she make nice pattie from scratch, by-the-order

    if you check her out,
ask to go back in the kitchen area and WATCH 'em work der magic.
....make it look so easy...when making the pattie dough

    .
    .

    .
    a final-finally::::
    :-)

1...i'd just returned from a leisurely jog from MissSonia's place to Ricks & back
...she/they let me change there, and watched my clothing, phone, stuff, and money
...nice peoples in Jamaica na tru

    2...here in-foreign I DO NOT eat-Jamaican cooked food [[ period ]]
    ...it AIN'T the same
...not *their* fault :::: it's just not being done in Jamaica ::: gotta be done iN Jamaica :::: the air, the water, the wood, the everything

plus, they charge way too much here in-foreign :::: dem bandits ... highway robbers.

    so,,,,,,,,,,,,,,book, pack & Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ..!!!

Bill; Have you ever had the patties from Out of Town Pastry on the deep West End? They are handmade and gooooood. But the Tastee Patties at Hammond's in town might have more filling and they are also hot hot hot! (even if they are just heated there). Only Jah food I eat here in foreign is Grace pepper sauce which is available in all our Canadian supermarkets. You right about the frozen patties sold here in foreign and I've tried all available types sold in Niagara Falls. Not so good. Crust not flaky, not soft, not nice.

    oh, YEAH..!!..
'Hammond' DO make an awesome pattie .... mi *think* they add sugar to crust

but, 'tis good .... there's a Hammond in Lucea ....price on high-end for me

    oh
    oh
oh::::>>> something puzzles me, though:::>> how dem get 'em all to *look* the same .... i have *problems* with cookie-cutter stuff ... makes me go ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,as far as hot hot hot ::::>>>> how they do dat .... is it in a microwave..???
.... me no like microwave-ed anything.

    note::>>> i'm picky picky

    Re: Ackee!

I'm making notes of places to go for handmade patties. They've got to be far superior to the frozen patties I've found here in central FL... (blech!) And a pizza joint in Tampa had jerk chicken on their pizza, and I'm positive that the jerk chicken in JA is going to have some actual jerk flavoring, LOL... the pizza was pretty darn bland.

I did check out the grocery store here in town- this is a small town, there's not much variety... and I found absolutely nothing remotely Jamaican on the foreign food aisle. I do know a guy from Negril that lives just a few blocks away from me though, so the next time I run in to him on my morning walk, I'm going to ask him where he gets his Jamaican food stuff.

Good information there, thanks a bunch!

Ha! Well if tastee cheese is a "processed cheese-like product" then it might not technically be dairy Kinda like those Kraft singles in the US. And it might not mess with your old man belly! Anyway... just giving you a hard time... as I am sure you know. Looking forward to more of your in-store videos... your suggestions have led to some of my current JA snack food obsessions (like the shirley biscuits).

    Have fun my friend!
