I use a separate debit and credit card while in Jamaica. I am lucky enough to have a Tangerine debit card (owned by Scotia Bank but with no fees) and a credit card with a low credit limit. Only use them while I am there and monitor for a few weeks when I get back. Never had any issues and easy to check. My regular debit and credit cards come with me, in case of emergency but always stay in the safe.
