That should make walking on the beach at night much nicer for men and women. If only.

Having lived in Kingston in the late 60's and hearing stories going back to the 40s I can say this:

Prostitution is not new to Jamaica,,,In fact at one time it was known as having the most beautiful prostitutes in the Carribbean

From the article.... " We took close to 40 young ladies off the street. We saw them walking on the streets, scantily dressed, and unable to give a proper account of why they were out in the street…,” Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor, commander of the St James Police Division, told reporters.

“In fact, those that we took in were arrested on reasonable suspicion because if we see a person scantily dressed and cannot account for what they are doing it is reasonable to think that these persons might be of the intention to commit a crime."

Bravo.. you could never apply such common scene policing in the US, because we're do wrapped up in political correctness. 40 lawyers would be appointed and they'd go after damages to the prostitute(s)

Canadian law sides on prosecuting the " Johns",and pimps, police will set stings, confiscate cars, publish names to slow prostitution, working with the street workers. My 2 cents.

I might get flamed for this but I feel like it's a a very different situation. Many of these guys are doing it because, they can or because they want to. It seems like a much easier *job* than selling juice or plantain chips.
When I was a lifeguard in AC, we all hit on the tourist girls just as much as the dudes in Negril. We weren't trying to make a living off of it, but I think it's still pretty similar, in that we were doing it because we were having fun.

The girls, especially the young ones seem to be lured into it and are much more likely to be taken advantage of.
