    Akee Patties

Been to Negril 12 times and always stayed at the same family run place on the beach. This year we are staying at a budget AI partly due to the low Canadian dollar but mostly because my wife's sisters will be joining us for a week and one of them has some health issues and wants to be where she can get all her meals and drinks where she stays incase she isn't feeling well. Should be interesting but I am just thrilled I will be spending a few weeks in Negril after not being able to go for the last few years so where I stay is not all that important. All I need are the good vibes, good people, the beach, the ocean and a place to lay my head for a few hours each nite. The first time I was in Negril I stayed for a month and discovered Akee patties made buy a man where friends stayed on the cliffs. I think it was called Jabas but it was 20 yrs ago and I may have got the name wrong. On several trips after that I tried finding places that sold them but was never successfull. Does anyone here know of a place that makes and sells them? I have been a regular lurker of this message board and now that Our 2 weeks in April is booked I figured it was time to become a member and read up on all the new goings on in Negril. April 4 the can't come soon enough but like I tell my wife before we know it we will be back from Negril and already planning our next trip there. Thanks for any help you great people can give me

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Out of Town Bakery has them. It is out past the lighthouse. While you are out that way, stop in to Jus' Natural for a nice meal and I think Barney's Hummingbirds is also in the area.

Thanks for the info and I will check at out of town bakery when I am touring around in the west end. I have had Ackee loaf and liked it but I really enjoyed the Ackee patties and when I asked about them at other places they didn't make them or said Ackee was out of season. Maybe I will get lucky this trip. Slightly Stoopid we are staying at Merrils ii. It's not so much about the money as it is my wife's sisters wishes do to her health issues. We work hard and don't mind paying for our trips and never feel bad about how much it costs but our dollar definitely doesn't go as far as it used to. Merrils isn't to expensive so we won't feel bad about eating and drinking some of our other favourite places while we are there. For years we stayed at donaldsons inn and loved it there and we will stay there again but this trip is more about showing her sisters around Negril and hopefully they fall in love with it like we did. 71 days and counting

You could ask Niah, a few chains north of you just past Tony's Hut, if he can make ackee patties for you on a future date. While you are there, have a veggie or Italian pattie (veggie with cheese); you'll be glad you did.
