    Bringing cigarettes

It's been several years since out last trip to Jamaica and I don't remember how many cartons of cigarettes we are allowed per person. I remember one year we paid a lot of duty because we brought to many and want to avoid that happening this year when we go. Also do they have to be cigarettes purchased at the duty free on the plane or in the airport. Thanks in advance for the help.

I think the legal limit is still 200 cigs per person going in or out of Jamaica which equals a carton per person. You do not have to buy them on the plane or airport you can bring them from home

Just remember if you end up buying cigarettes in Jamaica you won't find many Canadian brands.

Ok thank you for the help. I thought it was only a carton each but someone told me that it was 2 cartons . We always brought 2 cartons each and only told them we each had one carton and never had a problem but last time we were honest and payed something like $60 or $80 us duty if I remember correctly. We payed it because we don't like craven a's. I always bought craven a's to give to the Jamaicans who asked us for a smoke and most were unhappy when I pulled a craven out of my pack of Canadian smokes and handed it to them. I did always give a few packs to our security guards who said they liked Canadian smokes to mix with thier ganja to make it burn better.

I saw Rothman's being sold on the beach last week. Don't know if they were Canadian Rothman's or English Rothman's. Years ago; L and M on the west end sold DuMaurier's. Don't know if that's still true because I quit tobacco about 10 years ago.

WHEN are YOU going down-yonder there...???..
    &
    WHAT BRAND(s) you looking for...??

i'm going *down* in a couple weeks,
and will be stopping at the DutyFree place
    IN Jamaica @ Mobay airport
    to buy some cigarettes

me gonna get a couple cartons for my-self (to smoke & do-a-*deal* with Jamaican shopkeeper(s)

    am purchase-ing CravenA,
    'cause they're much-much cheaper @ duty-free vs. any-other store/shop/whatever on-island
    &
'cause for some weird reason my Winstons do not taste the same on-island

    nevertheless,
i'd be delighted to look/check to see if your-brand is available @ the Mobay duty free thing-y
    ...and cost

    ** Wow **

    you sure are generous
...'cause the cigarette-beggers can purchase a CravenA (or Matterhorn) by the *each* at MANY places in Negril ... on beach, on beach road, in town, at shops, at eatin' places, west end, east end, etc etc

    me *different*
    me-personally don't give 'em away ....... i sell 'em
....sell 'em at Lucea price,,, which is cheaper than Negril/Mobay hip-strip price

sell 'em JUST LIKE i sell 'em here in-foreign, when somebody wanna beg me a cigarette .....

    ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
i'm gonna have to do a *fact-check* on that ''Canadian smokes make ganja burn better''' comment

me-thinks some-somebodys are selling you a bill of goods der
....they just don't wanna use THEIR-coins
.......'cause every-body i know, who *blend* their ganja use CravenA, or ANY tobacco they can find

    stay tuned
    check my on-site trip reports

AM gonna *research* this Canadian cigarette more-better thing-y

Smith I always new that when they told me that they liked to mix Canadian smokes with thier ganja to make it burn better was just a ploy to get some Canadian smokes from me. I know our smokes are better than the cravens and that also that ask just to save thier coins and that's why I always had cravens on hand so I could make my Canadian smokes last my whole trip. Never had a problem giving a smoke or sharing my tequila with our security guards but they the only Canadian smokes they got from me was the pack I gave them the day we arrived and after that it was cravens only. I also learned that bring them home a snack when we got home late at night was a great idea as %99 of th the me they were lounging on our porch when we got home and I knew my things were always safe. Best way to have peace of mind when we stayed in the old wooden cabins at donaldsons inn. Never had an issue there in the 12 times we stayed there and always felt safe. Ty for the offer about the smokes. Pretty sure we will be fine because my wife's sisters are joining us on our second week and both are non smokers and will be bringing us a few cartons from the duty free. Cheersss
