    This is also an example of one of the phones I mentioned that have the universal radio chip, meaning it has the hardware to do quad band GSM. BUT Verizon configured the firmware to turn those frequencies turned off... so its a CDMA/LTE only phone when it comes from them.

    It is pretty easy (it appears) to reconfigure it to use all the frequencies for which the radio was designed. Please ask the Google if you are interested in making that happen. ☺

    If you need to have phone contact, you might want to go the route of borrowing up and topping up the minutes. While we were there in Dec/Jan, the digicell store in Negril ran out of sim cards and we got the "check back tomorrow" for a few days running, so we were glad that we had one to use. We did buy a cheap phone this year and signed up for ez top which only requires that 600 JA be put on the phone every 90 days to keep it active, thanks to the info on this board yet again
