friends asking for suggestion traveling with teenagers

our friends have stayed at swept away and now bringing kids they were talking about beaches, i suggest not there as their kids are too old for that i believe.
i mentioned grand pineapple but they want something more upscale. they do want all inclusive. my only suggestion is one of the Riu's. any other thoughts ?
also regarding RIU i recall one is better liked than the other? thanks

Our first trip with our 13 year old was to Riu Palace for his sister's wedding. He loved it because there was enough room for him to not be right next to mom and dad, but he couldn't wander off too far. He's 16 now and when he graduates in a couple years, we are doing non AI (which we prefer) with him. I just hope I can keep up with his food intake! haha

    How old are the teenagers?

This past June I stayed at Coco La Palm with my GF and her two adult children 18 & 20. They had a great time snorkleing, parasailing, paddle boarding etc... we stayed for a week, ate out 5 of 7 nights, excursions to Mayfield Falls, up in the hills and all around town. Total cost including airfare and two queen superior rooms right on the beach $8,000. That include transfers to/from airports in Jamaica and Boston, House/Pet sitter for a week all activities and meals. The "Kids" had an absolute blast!

All Inclusives can certainly make vacation planning easier, but I think you can still have fun and save a bunch of $$$ going Non All Inclusive.

    Enjoy,

    i *might* be mistaken,
    but
i *think* there's only ONE Rui
    in Negril

the 'second' one is being *renovated*

a BUNCH of places on the Hanover part of the BeachRoad were being renovated during my last-trip, a few months ago.

We took our 17 year old daughter and 19 year old son and stayed on the west end at the Castle. They knew that their parents had traveled extensively and were game for whatever we planned. We ate at small local restaurants, saw a few small concerts, went to the Sav market, Mayfield Falls, YS Fall \ Black River, ventured down into a cave in Red Ground and snorkeled with Famous Vincent. We all had a blast. A few years later our daughter got married at the Castle and I also took a 10 day trip to many of the lesser known Mayan ruins in the Yucatan with our son. If you plan on having fun, your kids will too!

If they are set on Negril then Riu Tropical Bay is a good choice, but if they will consider Runaway Bay ... my kids loved Jewel Runaway Bay when they were younger teens (it was BRB then), when they were 18 and 16, and still loved it last time at ages 21 AND 19. They would go back in a minute. We did Riu Tropical Bay when they were around 14 and 12 and we liked the resort but there were far fewer activities and they were bored a bit at times. As for Beaches, we took then to Beaches Negril once and Beaches Ochos Rios (Boscobel) twice and they had a great time. Beaches does cater to younger kids, but there is plenty to do for older teens and young adults too!
