Sounds like he's feeling better...![]()
This is just my opinion, so please make your decisions yourself, but please make sure they are informed decisions and not based on info obtained over the internet or on any forum. People like to help out, but posting something that "they heard" or "someone once told me" doesn't help in making an informed decision. If you are concerned about coming to Jamaica please talk to a doctor or Health Care professional. Don't talk to your neighbor how once heard that a guy shook hands with someone from Narinia (had to come up with a made up country name so I don't offend anybody) and they ended up getting ebola.
So, that facts; 1) Zika is a virus that is a legitimate concern. 2) Zika is present in the Caribbean.
Now the opinion; I wouldn't cancel my trip because Zika is something that can be controlled. It can't be prevented totally, but it can be controlled to a low and acceptable risk. Melanoma is also a legitimate concern, but we have been able to reduce the risk by smattering ourselves with sunscreen. Zika can be controlled to an acceptable risk by using mosquito repellant and using it often. Even indoors and especially at night or after a rain.
Zika won't stop me either! Tea tree oil and garlic snapper from Murphy's!
No need to cancel. Are your windows screened where you are staying? ASK Does the hotel spray for mosquitoes? ASK Use bug spray daytime as well as evening! Upon arriving, take a look around your area to make sure there are NO standing water areas in containers, pots,etc....if so notify hotel or landlord.
If you donate blood or platelets, be sure and tell them if you've been out of the country recently. I just went in to donate platelets this morning and they had to send me away because it's been less than 4 weeks since I got home from Jamaica. Apparently Jamaica is on their Zika virus list. 😕 I tried to tell them I get more mosquito bites in Key West than I got in Jamaica, but no dice.
Problem is that it has nothing to do with the number of mosquito bites one gets. It only takes one. Kind of like pregnancy I guess.
We have (I Believe) about 40 cases here in Florida and all are from people traveling from infected countries and Jamaica is on that list.
