When our son was around 8? we took him to Beaches for the day. It is very expensive, and you feel as is you need to then eat and drink yourself into oblivion. But thats hard to do because the food wasn't great, and was family oriented and them-park quality (think pizza, chicken strips, commercial patties). We didn't have a group of resort friends because we hadn't been there until right that minute, so it just wasn't optimal.
That same year we went to the Water Park. It was brand spankin' new - like literally the first few weeks. It was school day in Jamaica, so no local kids field trips there, and honest to God I swear - we were the only three people in the WHOLE ENTIRE place. Staff would follow us around from one amusement to the next turning it on, and acting a lifeguards. Ir was crazy. Toward to middle of the afternoon a couple of women came in who were very nice.
I understand that there is a lot of activity during school vacations when kids come in, or for end of school treat, but I'm not aware of the lots of foreign coming in. It's been a long time since they opened, so maybe they are more well known among visitors, but if not, it could be a lonely venture and not what you are looking for in terms of pals for your grandkids.
