I've decided to request for a wheelchair for both arrival and departure - I do not want to spend my vacation in pain because of standing for a long period of time.
My question is, I will be traveling with three other people - will they be able to follow me?

Whenever I am traveling with someone, I always get to the outside before them. The Immigration Line has a special kiosk for wheelchairs thus circumventing the long Immigration Line and then there is a special area for Customs on the right side of the hall where you are taken. Quick. Quick. Only about 20 minutes average from the plane to the door.
I would just save my money and sit outside and wait for your friends either on the left side of the exit doors or the right side (decide that in advance).
This is what I do and it always seems to work just fine.
