@ the Craft market by the river ..I came across a gentleman by the name of Wesley .. ( older guy ) who does some really nice work
..lot's to seen & had
& yes, you should not have a problem on the plane
We brought one back a year ago and didn't have a problem. Just carried it on with us.
This is from an old trip report about my friend Markie, but there are some photos of a walking stick he made from iron wood. It was about $100 maybe a bit more but is beautiful. I had it wrapped at the airport to take on the plane. There were some issues at US customs, but not with the walking stick, but with another carving that wasn't stained. Iron wood is very dark in color and the customs guy thought it has a finish on it, but it really didn't. If I had it to do over again, I would have one with a normal handle. The way it was made is not good for walking, but it sure is a showpiece.

My wife and I each took a cane to Negril last month. Stowed in the overhead. It's a mobility device. They can't prevent you from taking it on the plane; although the one pictured is a bit over the top to claim it's for your well-being.
thank u all very much for your input!! cant wait!!

I am not sure about US regulations but for Canada any wooden item brought back into the country must be inspected by Customs for bugs like wood lice and those not visible to the naked eye. etc. The newer the wood, the more likely an item is to be contaminated. Always a risk of having items confiscated. Bring back Sangsters Rum Cream! lol The smaller gift bottles at the airport duty free works out to be same price as if you bought a large bottle. Then you can reluctantly give one to your mother-in-law. They will roll all the bottles and wrap them for you at airport. Oops. Don't wrap the last one. Save it for the plane! China Man price good too for those little brown bottle treasures.
I brought 2 back one year with Rasta heads and attached them to make a curtain rod.
