    Red face Let's talk music

I am bringing my three teens with to Negril in a couple of weeks and want to school them in reggae. I was thinking of getting a compilation type cd from amazon but I thought I would check with all of you to see what you all recommend. They currently all listen Bob Marley and Ziggy.

What do you listen to? What do you recommend?

We listen to Bob Marley, Ziggy, Stephen and Kymani. A few others would be Tarrus Riley, Rootz Underground, Junior Reid. Some stateside groups they may have already heard of are Iration, Common Kings, Soja, Tribal Seeds, Stick Figure. All good. I tried to list some that would suit any of the age groups. Rather than get a compilation CD go to Youtube and check out some of their songs to be sure its pleasing to your ear. Use Itunes or some other downloading site to be able to take the music on the go with you much easier.
I also listen to Pandora at work all day and have created a reggae station, lots of variety there.

You will get a huge variety of answers here. Probably enough to break the bank if you were to get half of what is recommended. The beauty of this group!

Both are good! I would suggest watching the movie of Bob Marley. I listen to various reggae and dancehall. Duane Stephenson, Tarrus Riley, Beres Hammond, Romain Vargo, Christopher Martin, I could go on forever. Just depends on the mood your in.

King Yellowman and Richie Spice have recently been in Negril, from what I've heard (have a friend there now).

I like Damian Marley, Taurus Riley, Morgan Heritage, my iheartradio contemporary reggae station, etc. none of which are mind blowing secrets... Anything playing over the airways direct from Jamaica like the radio station that was linked the other day http://www.alphaboysschoolradio.com

I would suggest renting Holding onto Jah online. It is a movie produced by Groundation frontman Harrison Stafford. It will give you an overview of the history of reggae in Jamaica. Here is one of the clips. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZcCeeqF12Q
