Here is a picture of the islandwide electrical grid. All generating plants are interconnected. There is a main generating plant outside Montego Bay and a Hydro Plant on the Black River which connects (I believe) to a load distribution facility outside of Sav towards Ferris Cross. Others might have a better explanation.

I looked closer at that site and found some more good information.
wi have lost current a couple times this Winter for around 3 hours......not bad
wi have lost cable TV a half a dozen times this Winter.....at Christmas wi lost it for 3 days......ugh
FYI - many locals can't afford cable TV here......they mainly watch movies on der TV here

You only lost it 3 days at Christmas? LUCKY! My area was out at least a week. And the only way to get a live person was to call after the middle of the night ha ha.
power was off for the whole West End last night for around 3 hours.......came back on at 10PM
