If it were not for gratuities; Linda and I would not be able to visit Jamaica. Linda is a server here in Niagara Falls Canada. I'm a pensioner. Cut the man some slack. I've never been on the crawl, but then I always stay 'West End', so no real need. But for thousands of other visitors; it's a deal.

Thanks you Rob for going to detail for what I said in 4 lines. lol

Lenbert is a friend. He is a good guy with a good heart. On our last trip to Negril he took us to his house and I felt honored to be there.

I get defensive when someone questions the motives of any of my friends.

    One love!

    Now we know!
A visitor, after having read this thread, will know they could see prices of $4US for a Red Stripe, or $5US for a slice of pizza on the crawl.
    Now we know!
A visitor, after having read this thread, will know that some people are quite content tipping $3 for two people, or nothing at all to a man working hard to provide a free service to tourists, and provide for his family! (And there is nothing right about visitors doing that!).

Well, as a first time visitor to the rock, I know that I had reserved a spot to go on the Pub Crawl last month and had to back out at the last minute because I got sick- my hubby ran out to the bus and gave Lenbert our apologies and a little tip for his trouble. I know that even after reading all of the comments about the Pub Crawl and who does or doesn't pay whatever... I know Lenbert earns every dollar he makes, and I think it's none of my business what he makes or who he makes it from, just as my income (and source of income) is nobody's business. What I also know, is that I still want to go on the pub crawl with Lenbert next time we visit Jamaica (this October!) and I better not get sick!

As I said before sometimes the worst thing you can do is provide a "free" service, the scrutiny abounds!! Everyone wants to know how much others are making and how they are making it. Just one of those weird human nature things I guess!

I love the reference to Michael Franti. Love him! We've seen him in concert twice

When I go to Thailand, I don't presume to tell the guy who is cooking my food that looks something like a squirrel how to cook it. I either eat it, pay for it and discretely toss it away or I don't buy it in the first place. I don't presume to know his particular economy and how "tings run" nor do I think I can cook that animal better than him.

Maybe (just maybe) that is how we should look at Jamaica and the way Jamaicans "run tings".

    Just my opinion.
