    Message for U.S. Citizens:

    Zika Virus

    February 1, 2016

The U.S. Embassy in Kingston informs U.S. citizens that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has upgraded its advisories regarding the Zika Virus. Local health authorities have also confirmed the presence of Zika virus in Jamaica. The full advisory can be found at http://moh.gov.jm/jamaica-confirms-f...he-zika-virus/.

For general information about Zika, please visit the CDC website. To obtain CDC travel notices, call the CDC at 1-800-CDC-INFO (1-800-232-4636) from within the United States, or 1-404-639-3534 from overseas or visit the CDC website.

We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Jamaica enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency.

Regularly monitor the State Department's website, where you can find current Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and the Worldwide Caution. Read the Country Information For Jamaica. For additional information, refer to the Traveler’s Checklist on the State Department's website.

Emergencies involving U.S. citizens can be reported by contacting the American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit of the U.S. Embassy’s Consular Section, located at 142 Old Hope Road in the Liguanea area of Kingston, telephone at (876) 702-6000, and e-mail at KingstonACS@state.gov. The U.S. Consular Agency in Montego Bay is located at Whitter Village, Ironshore, telephone (876) 953-0620. The U.S. Consular Agency in the Cayman Islands is located in the Smith Center, Unit 202B, 150 Smith Road, Grand Cayman, telephone (345) 945-8173.

    Respectfully,
    American Citizen Services
    U.S. Embassy
    Kingston, Jamaica

My wife and I are coming down March 6th through the 14th. Should my wife and I cancel our trip? Should we be concerned? My wife is not pregnant.

We got back on Tues and by wednesday my husband started getting a horrid rash from neck on down. The only other symptom I'm aware of is a sore throat and just very tired. No fever or other symptoms. Should I be worried or is there another virus going around.

Take him to a Dr. and tell the Dr. where you've been.
